As part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Geological survey of India in association with PG Department of Applied Geology renovated the Angadipuram laterite monument which is one geoheritage sites in Kerala. The program was conducted on 30th November 2022 at 10:00 am. In the program 1st &2nd M.Sc Applied Geology students participated along with Mr.Abdul Rahman C V , Head of the Department and other two faculties .In the program geologists from Geological survey of India and other eminent personalities in the locality took part. Dr. S. RAJESH, Director of Geological Survey of India, Trivandrum briefly described the history and formation of laterite formation in the area. He explained how is laterite formed and also described the laterite present in Anagdipuram. Dr. Mohammed Sheriff, Director, Field training Institute, Chittradurga also described the importance of laterite in the present economy and also put forwarded the importance of preserving such geological heritage sites. Through their words they try to spread to awareness about the importance of preserving such sites. After the session Geologists along with the students visited two laterite quarries near the area where they explained the vertical variation in the laterite formation. They explained about the lithomarge and also about quality variation in laterite. The entire program was very interactive and informative as explained the importance of such structures and formations not only to the students but also to the public.
