The Department of Computer Applications, in association with IQAC, successfully organized the Internship Certificate Distribution Ceremony – "Industry Connect 2026" on 31st July 2026 (Friday) from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at MPN Hall, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram.
The ceremony was organized to recognize the successful completion of internships by students and to appreciate their commitment towards experiential learning. The event aimed to strengthen the connection between academic learning and industry exposure while motivating students to enhance their professional skills.
The programme was graced by Dr.Finose A, Vice Principal, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, who distributed the internship certificates to the students. During his address, he emphasized the importance of internships in developing practical knowledge, improving employability, and preparing students to meet the evolving demands of the industry. He congratulated the students on their achievements and encouraged them to continue upgrading their skills for successful careers.
Faculty members, students, and invited guests attended the programme. A Career Orientation Session took place for the BCA Final Year students at the Research and Innovation Center at 10:00 AM on 22/01/2026. The program was organized by the Department of Computer Applications in collaboration with the Placement Cell to help students prepare for their future careers. The session offered a great opportunity for students to gain practical insights into industry expectations and career development.
The program began with a welcome speech by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Computer Applications. She warmly greeted the resource person and the students and highlighted how important career guidance programs are for shaping students' professional futures.
Mr. Neju A. N, Senior Manager, Quest Innovative Solution Pvt Ltd Cochin, served as the resource person for the session. He delivered an engaging presentation, using his professional experience to advise students on various crucial aspects of career success. He provided a clear view of current industry trends and stressed the need to develop both technical and soft skills to stay competitive in the job market.
A major part of the session focused on placement strategies. The speaker discussed effective ways to improve employability. He pointed out the significance of building resumes, developing skills, and personal branding to secure job opportunities. Additionally, he went over interview strategies, offering practical advice on how to confidently approach interviews. He talked about preparation techniques, communication skills, body language, and how to handle both HR and technical interview questions.
The session was informative and interactive, with students actively participating and asking questions about placements and interviews. The practical tips, real-world examples, and motivational advice shared by the resource person helped students gain a better understanding of career planning and professional growth.

The Department of Computer Application, in collaboration with Asia Pacific University and GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized a career guidance program titled “AI: An Action” with the objective of providing students with valuable insights into Artificial Intelligence and the wide range of career opportunities available in this rapidly growing field.
The program was conducted at MPN Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students from the BCA and Computer Science (CS) programs participated in the session. A total of 26 BCA students from the Department of Computer Application actively attended the program, along with students from the Department of Computer Science.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Computer Application. In her address, she emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence in today’s technological landscape and highlighted the objectives of the program. She also introduced the resource persons and briefly spoke about their expertise, setting the tone for an informative and engaging session.
The resource persons for the program were Ms. Imaan Rojoa and Mr. Hussain Halderwala, renowned experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. They delivered insightful sessions focusing on the practical applications of AI, its impact across various industries, and the future scope of AI-related careers. The speakers stressed the importance of skill development, continuous learning, and adaptability to succeed in the fast-evolving technology sector.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with Sysbreeze Technologies Pvt Ltd, conducted a Hands-on Session on the topic “Python Programming” on 20th January 2026 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 AM. The session was held at the BCA Lab and was attended by students and faculty members of the department.
The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing students’ programming skills by providing foundational and practical knowledge of Python. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic curriculum and industry requirements by exposing students to real-world applications of Python programming.
The workshop commenced with registration followed by an inaugural session. The resource person was introduced and the significance of Python as a versatile and widely used programming language was emphasized.
Ms. Keerthana delivered an insightful session covering both conceptual and practical aspects of Python programming. The programme focused on introducing Python basics, syntax, and core programming constructs such as variables, data types, operators, control statements, functions, modules, and basic data structures.
Hands-on sessions were conducted to enable students to practice coding and develop problem-solving skills. The resource person also provided an overview of Python libraries and highlighted career opportunities in Python development, thereby motivating students towards skill-oriented learning.

The Department of Computer Applications of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized a Workshop on Computer Networks on Thursday, 18 December 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshop was held in the BCA Lab to help students understand computer networking in a practical way.The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan P.K., Head of the Department of Computer Applications. She spoke about the importance of networking skills in today’s technology field and encouraged students to actively take part in the session.The workshop was handled by Ms. Shibla Shereen, Academic Head of Leads Networking Academy. She explained the basic concepts of computer networks in a clear and simple manner. Topics such as types of networks, networking devices, basic IP concepts, and the importance of networking were discussed. She used real-life examples, which helped students understand the topics easily.
A total of 40 students participated in the workshop with great interest. The session was interactive, and students asked questions and shared their doubts. Along with the theory session, a hands-on session was also conducted. This practical session helped students understand networking concepts better.After the session, a quiz was conducted to test the students’ understanding. Twenty-four students answered all the questions correctly. Since many students performed well, one student was selected among them. Mohammed Nafih K.P. was selected and received a prize from the organizing team.The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Husna Mehbin, S4 BCA Class Representative, who thanked the resource person, Head of the Department, faculty members, and students for their support.Overall, the workshop was very useful and informative. It helped students gain practical knowledge and encouraged them to learn more about computer networking.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the IQAC, conducted an orientation training program titled Shaping the Future with AI”on 11th December 2024. The event was held from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the BCA Lab, with a total of 39 students participating.The primary objective of the training was to introduce students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its practical applications in various domains. The session was led by Mr. Fahad Salam, Senior Software Engineer cum Technology Lead, who provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI and its impact on industries.
During the session, Mr. Fahad Salam explained the fundamentals of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. He emphasized the growing demand for AI professionals and how students can build a career in this field. He also demonstrated real-world applications of AI in healthcare, finance, automation, and cybersecurity, highlighting the transformative power of AI in shaping the future.The interactive nature of the session kept the students engaged. Several hands-on demonstrations were conducted, allowing students to explore AI-driven tools and technologies. Mr. Fahad also shared insights into AI ethics, challenges, and future advancements, encouraging students to actively participate in AI research and development.The program concluded with a Q&A session, where students clarified their doubts and discussed career prospects in AI. The session was well-received, and participants expressed their enthusiasm for further learning opportunities in AI.Overall, the orientation training successfully enhanced students’ understanding of AI and its real-world applications, motivating them to explore AI-driven innovations. The Department of Computer Applications organized an engaging Quiz Competition in connection with World Population Day on 14th July 2025 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm to create awareness about global population issues and sustainable development. The event aimed to encourage students to enhance their general knowledge and understanding of population dynamics, demographic challenges, and their impact on society and the environment.The competition was conducted in a lively and competitive spirit, with enthusiastic participation from students across various classes. The quiz covered a wide range of topics including population growth trends, family planning, resource management, and international initiatives related to population control and sustainability.After several challenging rounds, the team of Shahid Afreedi and Mohammed Mishal Palepadiyan emerged as the First Prize winners, showcasing excellent teamwork and awareness. The Second Prize was secured by the team of Muhammed Farsal and Gokul, who also displayed commendable performance and enthusiasm.The event successfully met its objective of promoting awareness and curiosity about population-related issues among students while fostering teamwork, quick thinking, and a spirit of healthy competition. Overall, the quiz competition was a great success and received positive feedback from both participants and faculty members.

The session was held at the BCA classroom and was attended by students and faculty members of the department.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the Department of Physical Education, organized an Awareness and Demonstration Session on 20th June 2025 in connection with International Yoga Day.
The session aimed to promote the importance of physical and mental well-being through the practice of yoga among students and faculty members. Ms. Sneha S, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, led the session with great enthusiasm and expertise.
During the session, Ms. Sneha highlighted the significance of incorporating yoga into daily life to improve flexibility, concentration, and overall health. She also demonstrated a series of simple yet effective yoga asanas and breathing techniques that can be practiced by individuals of all age groups.
Participants actively took part in the demonstration, showing great interest and enthusiasm. The session was highly interactive and beneficial, leaving a positive impact on all attendees.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a creative competition titled “COVER STORY” on behalf of the FYUGP Skill Enhancement Course. The event was conducted on 21st March 2025 at 10:00 AM in the BCA Lab.
The primary objective of the competition was to encourage students to apply their creativity and technical knowledge in designing an attractive cover page using Microsoft Word. The program aimed to improve students’ practical skills, aesthetic sense, and familiarity with various formatting tools and design features available in Word.
A total of six students participated in the competition, forming three groups, each consisting of 2 members. The participants displayed outstanding teamwork and creativity while following the competition guidelines, which restricted the use of third-party design tools or templates. However, students were permitted to download necessary images to enrich their cover designs.
Throughout the event, students skillfully utilized Word features such as text effects, color gradients, image formatting, shapes, and layout settings to produce professional-quality cover pages. The competition provided an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, fostering both technical competence and innovative thinking.
In addition to improving their design skills, the competition helped students develop vital soft skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and time management. Faculty members from the Department of Computer Applications coordinated and evaluated the entries based on creativity, originality, visual appeal, and proper use of Word tools.
After an impressive display of designs, Fathima Saja and Hiba Fathima were declared the winners of the competition for their exceptional creativity and well-balanced cover design. The program was coordinated and carried out by Ms. Raneesha K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of BCA, who ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
The “COVER STORY” competition proved to be a fruitful and enjoyable experience, effectively enhancing the students’ digital design skills, creativity, and confidence in using Microsoft Word as a powerful tool for document design.
