Evolution of GEMS
GEMS Arts & Science College was established in 2008 at Ramapuram, on the outskirts of Perinthalmanna, with the vision of providing quality higher education to students from rural and underserved communities. Affiliated with the University of Calicut and recognized under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, the college currently offers 14 Undergraduate (UG) programmes and 6 Postgraduate (PG) programmes.
Spread across a serene 10-acre campus surrounded by hillocks and lush green paddy fields, the institution provides an ideal atmosphere for academic and personal growth. At a time when the district had limited Government and aided colleges to meet the increasing educational demands, a group of educational visionaries and social workers came together to establish GEMS Cooperative Society under the leadership of the Constituency MLA. People from diverse backgrounds, irrespective of caste, creed, or political affiliation, joined hands to support the initiative and create an institution dedicated to educational empowerment.
Situated in the hilly and backward region of Malappuram district, the college has become a gateway to higher education for thousands of students from rural and economically disadvantaged areas. True to the meaning of “Malappuram” — “land on the hilltop” — the institution stands as a beacon of knowledge, opportunity, and social transformation for the region.
