PG Department of applied Geology in association with IQAC conducted a webinar on "Basic Concepts of Research" on 15th May 2023 through google meet. The resource person of the program was Dr.Aju.C.D. He mentioned that research is a systematic and organized inquiry aimed at generating knowledge, solving problems, or answering questions through the application of scientific methods and it plays a crucial role in advancing various fields of study and contributes to the development of society. He provided an overview of the basic concepts of research, including its purpose, types, methodology, and ethical considerations. He mentioned that the purpose of the research is to gain knowledge and understanding of a particular subject or phenomenon. It aims to explore, discover, and contribute to existing knowledge by conducting a systematic investigation. Research can be categorized into two broad types which are basic research and applied research. He also discussed research methodology which refers to the systematic and planned approach used to conduct research. It involves various stages, including. Problem Identification, Literature Review, Research Design, Data Collection, Data Analysis, Results and Conclusion. He described various types of research based on its objectives, scope, and methodology which include Quantitative Research, Qualitative Research, Mixed Methods Research, Descriptive Research and Experimental Research. Through his session he described basic concepts in research which is a systematic inquiry aimed at generating knowledge, solving problems, and contributing to various fields of study. By understanding the purpose, types, methodology, and ethical considerations of research, individuals can conduct meaningful investigations and contribute to the advancement of knowledge and society. Research plays a vital role in shaping scientific discoveries. A total of 37 participants were present for the program.
