On 20th July 2019, the Microbiology Department of GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, organized a monsoon awareness class titled "How to Say NO to Monsoon Diseases." The objective of the class was to educate the local community about common monsoon diseases, such as Dengue, Viral Fever, Malaria, and Cholera, and provide them with knowledge on prevention measures. The program was led by the College Principal, Mr. Naveen Mohan, and the Head of the Microbiology Department, Ms. Radhika R Krishna. The monsoon awareness class aimed to make the common people in the neighborhood of GEMS College aware of the potential risks associated with monsoon diseases and to emphasize the importance of taking preventive measures. The students from the Microbiology Department played a pivotal role in organizing and conducting the class. During the class, the students educated the attendees about the common monsoon diseases prevalent in the area, including Dengue, Viral Fever, Malaria, and Cholera. They discussed the symptoms, modes of transmission, and potential consequences of these diseases. Through informative presentations and interactive discussions, the students successfully conveyed the importance of being cautious during the monsoon season. The students emphasized various preventive measures to combat monsoon diseases. They provided detailed information on maintaining proper hygiene, such as regularly washing hands, keeping the surroundings clean, and preventing water stagnation. Additionally, they highlighted the significance of using mosquito repellents, wearing protective clothing, and ensuring the cleanliness of water sources. Recognizing the tendency of self-medication during monsoon illnesses, the awareness class emphasized the importance of consulting a doctor rather than self-treating. The students educated the attendees on the risks associated with improper medication and stressed the need for seeking professional medical advice for accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The monsoon awareness class was effectively organized and led by Mr. Naveen Mohan, the College Principal, and Mrs. Radhika, the Head of the Microbiology Department. Their guidance and support were instrumental in the success of the program. The students from the Microbiology Department displayed enthusiasm, knowledge, and excellent communication skills while conducting the class. The monsoon awareness class, was a commendable initiative.
