The PG Department of English Language and Literature, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized an academic visit titled “Beyond the Classroom: Exploring KLF” for the S2 MA English students on 23 January 2026 at the Kerala Literature Festival, held at Kozhikode Beach. A total of 14 students from S2 MA English participated in the programme. The students were escorted and guided by Arya P., Assistant Professor, PG Department of English. The group reached the venue at 10:00 AM and actively participated in the literary sessions organized as part of the festival. The students attended a talk delivered by Sunita Williams, which provided valuable insights into her experiences and perspectives. Later, at 1:30 PM, the students attended a session by Prakash Raj, which was inspiring and thought-provoking.
In addition to attending these sessions, the students explored the various book stalls and exhibitions at the festival venue. This allowed them to interact with contemporary literary works, publishers, and the wider literary community. The visit served as a meaningful learning experience beyond the classroom, enabling students to engage with prominent personalities, contemporary discussions, and the vibrant literary atmosphere of the festival. The group concluded the visit and returned from the venue at 5:00 PM.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature at GEMS Arts and Science College organized a special program titled "Breath, Align, Thrive: A Holistic Yoga Program" on 25th June 2025 in connection with International Yoga Day. The event held at Moyinkutty Vaidyar Rooftop Auditorium at 10:00 AM and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members.
The Chief Guest for the day was PT Vinod Kumar, National Yoga Coach and Judge (Yogasan Bharat, SAI Patyala). Under his expert guidance, students engaged in a series of holistic yoga practices that focused on breath control, posture alignment, and mindfulness. His session was highly insightful, emphasizing the significance of integrating yoga into daily life for overall well-being
The session was well-received by all participants and concluded on a positive note with students expressing their appreciation for the practical, energetic, and enriching experience. The event successfully instilled the spirit of International Yoga Day, promoting a healthier and more balanced lifestyle among the attendees.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day on June 20, 2025, the PG Department of English Language and Literature at GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized a powerful pantomime performance titled "Silent Scream: Voices of Refugees" held at the Tagore Block Corridor at 3:30 PM, the event aimed at raising awareness about the struggles and silent suffering of refugees across the world. The program brought together students and faculty in a shared space of empathy and reflection.
The pantomime performance, presented by graduate students of English Language and Literature, conveyed the intense and emotional experiences of refugees without the use of words. Through expressive gestures, body language, and symbolic visuals, the performers highlighted themes of war, loss, displacement, and the longing for peace. The minimalist setting and haunting background music further enhanced the emotional depth, leaving the audience visibly moved and thoughtful. The performance served as a poignant reminder of the invisible pain endured by millions around the globe. Overall, the program succeeded in creating awareness, fostering empathy, and encouraging socially conscious artistic expression among students.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature, in association with the IPR Cell, organized a program titled "An Introduction to Copyright in Intellectual Property Rights" on 27th March 2026 at M. P. Narayana Menon Hall. The session was conducted for the benefit of Fourth Semester B.A. English and Fourth Semester M.A. English students.The program commenced with a formal welcome, highlighting the relevance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in contemporary academic and creative domains. The session aimed to provide students with a foundational understanding of copyright laws and their significance in safeguarding original works. The resource person for the session was Dr. Deepthi V. C.,Assistant Professor, PG Department of General Biotechnology. She delivered an insightful and engaging lecture on the fundamentals of copyright, explaining key concepts such as ownership, fair use, plagiarism, and legal protections available to creators. She also emphasized the importance of respecting intellectual property in academic writing, research, and creative practices.
Dr. Deepthi illustrated real-world examples and case studies to make the session more interactive and accessible. She clarified common misconceptions about copyright and provided guidance on how students can ethically use and cite sources in their academic work. The session was highly informative and encouraged students to be more responsible and aware creators and users of intellectual content.
An interactive question and answer session followed, where students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding copyright issues and academic integrity. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource person for her valuable contribution, as well as to the organizing committee and participants for making the session a success. Overall, the program was highly beneficial in enhancing students' awareness of copyright and intellectual property rights, equipping them with essential knowledge relevant to their academic and professional pursuits. Total 29 students are participated in this program.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature conducted a public speaking programme titled "Unlock Your Voice" on 21 January 2026 with the objective of enhancing the communication and public speaking skills of undergraduate students. The programme was organized for 2ND and 4** semester of BA English students.
The session was held at M. P. Narayana Menon Hall from 9.30 a.m. to 11.20 a.m. The resource person for the programme was Rihas K. T., Assistant Professor, PG Department of English Language and Literature, who has extensive experience in language teaching and communication training. The programme began with a brief introduction highlighting the importance of effective public speaking in academic, professional, and social contexts. The resource person engaged the students through an interactive session that focused on overcoming stage fear, improving voice modulation, developing confidence, body language, articulation, and structuring speeches effectively. Practical tips and real-life examples were shared to help students understand the nuances of impactful communication.
Students actively participated in the session through short speaking activities and interactive discussions. The resource person encouraged students to express their ideas freely and provided constructive feedback, which helped them identify their strengths and areas for improvement.
The session was lively, motivating, and informative, enabling students to gain confidence in expressing themselves in public. "Unlock Your Voice" was a successful and enriching programme that significantly contributed to the personal and academic development of the participants by fostering confidence and effective communication skills. Total 61 students are participated in this programme.

The English Language and Literature Association, ENGLORIA, organized an association programme on 03 February 2026 at MPN Hall, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The programme was designed to promote literary appreciation, language skills, and creative engagement among students.
The event was graced by guest speaker Deepa Nisanth, whose presence and insights enriched the academic and literary experience of the participants. The session aimed to inspire students through meaningful discussions and interactions related to English language and literature.
The programme featured a variety of academic and cultural activities, including a mentalist programme session by Mr. Noushad. The event included literary presentations, recitations, and interactive sessions. The invited guest shared valuable insights that inspired students to appreciate literature beyond the classroom and to develop confidence in language use. Students actively participated in the events, showcasing their talents, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.
The English Association Day was highly successful in achieving its objectives. It enhanced students’ communication skills, encouraged teamwork and leadership, and created a vibrant learning atmosphere. Overall, the programme was engaging, informative, and memorable, leaving a lasting impact on both participants and the audience.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), successfully conducted the Bhavishya-Peer Teaching Program on 23 January 2026 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Room 403. The program was organized as part of the department's academic initiatives to promote peer learning and active student participation. The session was handled by Muhammed Shafi C.H, a postgraduate student of M.A. English Language and Literature.
The session, titled Gender Representation in Media, aimed to enhance collaborative learning, strengthen subject understanding, and develop teaching and communication skills among students. The peer teaching approach created an interactive learning environment where students actively engaged in discussions. The presenter demonstrated clarity, confidence, and effective subject knowledge, which helped in maintaining interest and encouraging meaningful academic interaction throughout the session.
The Bhavishya Peer Teaching Program proved to be academically enriching and met its intended objectives. It fostered confidence, mutual learning, and critical thinking among students. The successful conduct of the session highlighted the importance of peer teaching as an effective pedagogical strategy, and such programs are recommended for continued academic development in the department.

The Cambridge Course Orientation for teachers was conducted in a hybrid format, with the offline session held at MP Narayana Menon Hall on Wednesday, 22nd February 2026. Organized as part of the Cambridge Training Program, the session featured Ms. Alankrita Mahendra as the guest speaker, who delivered an engaging and informative presentation for both in-person and virtual participants.
During the session, Ms. Mahendra provided a comprehensive overview of the Cambridge One application, highlighting its key features for lesson planning, assessment, and resource sharing. She demonstrated how the platform enhances curriculum delivery while offering the flexibility required to address diverse classroom needs.
The orientation also focused on contemporary teaching methodologies, emphasizing learner-centered approaches, effective integration of technology, and evidence-based practices. Overall, the session equipped participants with valuable insights and practical strategies to enhance their pedagogical practices and effectively utilize Cambridge’s digital and instructional resources.

Narayana Menon Hall. The session was led by two distinguished experts Professor Srinivas Principal, Bangalore independent PU College, and Dr.Roshan

manager,Bangalore integrated management academy. The program aimed to equip students and faculty with a comprehensive understanding of the growing relevance of data analytics and digital marketing in the modern business world. Professor Srinivas elaborated on the applications of analytics in decision-making processes, emphasizing tools and techniques used in real-world scenarios. Dr. Roshan Zameer Ahammed provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of digital marketing, discussing current trends, strategies, and the importance of online presence in business growth. The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment, allowing participants to clarify doubts and engage directly with the speakers. The event was well-received and proved to be highly beneficial for students and faculty alike, contributing significantly to their academic and professional enrichment. 85 students are actively participated in the program.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature at GEMS Arts and Science College organized a programme titled “Breaking the Varna: Challenging the Hierarchy, Changing the Narrative” on July 30, 2025. The event, attended by 27 S3 BA English students, aimed to deepen their understanding of the caste system and its portrayal in contemporary narratives, aligning with their “Literary and Cultural Narratives for Languages” syllabus.
The programme began with a screening of the movie ARM (Ajayante Randam Moshanam) at the Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre. The film was chosen for its rich use of cultural and mythological references, providing a compelling foundation for academic discussion. A total of 27 Students from S3 BA English attended the program.
Following the screening, a faculty-moderated group discussion was held. Students actively participated, analyzing how the film used ancient narratives to critique modern social hierarchies. The conversation focused on the movie’s portrayal of the caste system, its impact on individuals, and whether its narrative successfully challenged traditional power structures.
The programme was a resounding success, effectively transforming a passive movie-watching experience into an active learning session. By combining a cinematic narrative with critical analysis, the event successfully fostered empathy, social awareness, and critical thinking among students, reinforcing the role of literature and film as tools for social change.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College conducted a seminar titled " TEFL/TESOL: Unlocking global teaching opportunities " through Google meet on 3rd July 2025 at 7.00 pm to 8.00pm. The class was handled by Sayebanu K and Mubashirathul Husna P, the former students of PG Department of English. The seminar’s objective was to introduce students to the benefits and career prospects of Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The event aimed to inspire future educators and provide practical guidance on entering the field of English language teaching. This program educates students about TEFL/TESOL certifications and their global relevance and helps to highlight career opportunities in different countries. It also provide insights into choosing the right certification program and inspire students to consider teaching English as a viable career path. Forty Students are participated in this program.
