A debate competition was organized by the Department of Travel and Tourism Management on March 11, 2025, in Room No. 410, focusing on the thought-provoking topic: "Can Tourism Be a Tool for Empowering Women in Developing Countries by Creating Jobs and Opportunities?" The World Tourism Day celebration was held on September 27, 2024, at MP Narayanamenon Hall, bringing together tourism enthusiasts, industry professionals, and community members to recognize the significance of sustainable tourism. The event aimed to promote awareness about responsible travel practices and their impact on local communities and the environment.
Sibin P. Paul ( District Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator) Emphasized the importance of responsible tourism in preserving cultural heritage and natural resources. Discussed initiatives undertaken by the District Responsible Tourism Mission to promote eco-friendly travel options. Encouraged local communities to participate actively in tourism development, highlighting successful local case studies.
Irfan Noufal (Executives director and COO Green Oasis Tours and Travel Group) Shared insights on current trends in the tourism industry, including the rise of experiential and sustainable travel. Highlighted the role of technology in enhancing travel experiences while ensuring environmental sustainability. Advocated for collaborative efforts between the travel industry and local stakeholders to promote responsible tourism.

As part of the Environment Day celebrations, The Department of Travel and Tourism Management in collaboration with Tourism Club organized a quiz competition on June 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Room number 409. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of Responsible and Sustainable Tourism, aligning with the global environmental goals and the theme of World Environment Day.
Objectives:
To educate participants about sustainable travel practices.
To encourage awareness of the environmental impact of tourism.
To highlight the role of individuals in promoting eco-friendly tourism.
Participants:
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 31 students. Participants were grouped into teams of seven, and the event attracted a diverse and engaged audience.
Format:
The quiz comprised of Written test.
Informative questions covered topics such as eco-certifications, community-based tourism, carbon footprints, and UNESCO heritage sites.
The quiz fostered healthy competition and team spirit.
The audience also actively participated in bonus questions and discussions.
Prizes and certificates were awarded to the top three teams and all participants received certificates of appreciation.
Outcome:
The event was successful in sparking curiosity and discussion about responsible tourism practices. It helped instill a sense of responsibility among students to travel sustainably and to be more conscious of environmental impacts while exploring new places.

The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, organized an orientation programme on NET/JRF (National Eligibility Test/Junior Research Fellowship) for MSW students on 20th June 2025. The session was held in Room No. 903, PG Block. The orientation programme commenced at 10:30 AM with a welcome address by Ms. Anitha Parveen J, Head of the Department of Social Work. In her address, she highlighted the significance of clearing NET/JRF for a promising academic and research career and emphasized the role of early preparation and proper guidance. The resource person for the session was Mr. Sarath, a JRF holder and Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work. With his firsthand experience and success in cracking the NET/JRF exam, Mr. Sarath provided valuable insights into the structure of the examination, syllabus, important topics, preparation techniques, and time management strategies. He also shared reliable study materials, online platforms, and question-solving methods that could enhance the effectiveness of students' preparation.

To mark the observance of World Refugee Day, the Department of Sociology at Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, organized a movie screening on 20th June 2025 (Friday). The event took place at MP Narayana Menon Hall from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
The movie "Turtles Can Fly", a poignant film highlighting the struggles of refugee children in conflict zones, was selected for the screening. The film offered a deep and emotional insight into the experiences of displacement, loss, and resilience among refugee communities.
The session commenced with a welcome address and an introductory speech by Mr. Abhin P.C., Head of the Department of Sociology, who contextualized the significance of the movie in relation to World Refugee Day and global refugee issues.
A total of seventy students participated in the screening. Following the movie, an interactive discussion was held, where students shared their reflections and perspectives on the film. Faculty members including Assistant Professors Aravind K.R. and Nimmi A.P. actively engaged in the discussion, enriching it with their sociological insights and encouraging critical thinking among students.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Afeela, a final-year sociology student, who expressed gratitude to all attendees and organizers for their participation and contribution to the program.
The screening and discussion provided a valuable platform for students to engage with pressing global issues through the lens of cinema and sociology.

In the celebration of International yoga day was conducted on June 21, 2025 at 05.00 pm, an inspiring Yoga session organized for students. The event was coordinated by Mrs. Rahila Sheena K P with the active support and guidance of the Head of the Department Mrs. Ranjusha V P.

A special interactive yoga session was conducted by Ms. Shahina T K, the founder of She Nest Yoga is AYUSH Level 2 certified Yoga trainer, accredited by the Shivananda School of Yoga recognized by Quality council of India an enthusiastic and highly skilled yoga trainer. Her deep knowledge and passion for yoga were clearly reflected in the session which was both engaging and rejuvenating for all participants.

The event was conducted in online mode, with active participation from students of our department. All participants was highly engaged and attentive throughout the session. The program featured an enthusiastic and well- structured demonstrative yoga class which provided students with valuable insights into various yoga techniques.
