On the occasion of the International Day of Forests, observed annually on March 21st, the PG Department of English Language and Literature successfully conducted a Digital Poster Making Competition titled "One Earth, One Chance". The competition was based on the impactful theme "Save Forest, Save Humanity", aiming to raise awareness about the significance of forest conservation and the vital connection between forests and human survival.The event was conducted virtually, commencing on March 21st, 2025 at 6:00 PM and concluding on March 22nd, 2025 at 8:00 PM. Students from various departments across the institution actively participated, showcasing their creativity, awareness, and concern for the environment through thought-provoking and visually compelling digital posters.The competition provided a platform for students to express their views on environmental sustainability and the urgent need to protect our forests. The overwhelming response and enthusiastic participation reflected the students' dedication to environmental causes and their willingness to be a voice for change.

The session "Breaking Barriers: Empowering the Mind for Gender Equity", led by the esteemed
legal expert Adv. Shaheeda Panchily, on 10/03/2025 Monday at MP Naryanamenon Hall, was
an enlightening and thought-provoking event. The program aimed to explore the legal and
social dimensions of gender equity, providing students with a deeper understanding of their
rights and responsibilities in fostering an inclusive society. Adv. Shaheeda Panchily delivered
a compelling lecture, emphasizing the significance of equity in law and its role in dismantling
systemic barriers. She highlighted key legal provisions that safeguard gender rights and
encouraged students to be proactive in advocating for justice and equality. 75 students were
participated in the session. It was both informative and engaging, filled with real-life examples
and thought-provoking discussions. The program successfully fostered awareness and inspired
critical thinking among students. It was a resounding success, leaving participants with a
renewed sense of responsibility and commitment to promoting gender equity in their personal
and professional lives.

PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, successfully organized an Online Book Review Competition “Turning Pages Changing World” on 23rd April 2025, in commemoration of World Book Day. The event aimed to foster a culture of reading and critical thinking among students and to provide a platform to showcase their analytical and expressive abilities through literary critique.
The competition was open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college. Participants were invited to submit video reviews or written analyses of any work of fiction or non-fiction of their choice. A total of 5 students registered for the event, and 3 entries were shortlisted based on originality, clarity of thought, language proficiency, and critical engagement with the text.

Third Prize :- Athul Krishna ( S2 BA Sociology ).

On January 25, 2025, I attended the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) in Kozhikode, accompanied by a student specializing in travel narratives. The festival, known as Asia's largest literary gathering, featured over 500 speakers from 15 countries, including six Booker Prize winners and Nobel laureates.

We explored sessions on travel literature, storytelling, and cultural narratives, gaining insights from acclaimed authors and scholars. The festival's beachfront setting, interactive discussions, and diverse audience provided a rich learning experience. The event highlighted the global significance of literature and its intersection with history, politics, and art.

The official mauguration of the English Association at Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram took place on the 30th of January 2025, at the MP Narayanamenon Hall, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The event marked the commencement of a new chapter for the association, fostering academic growth and cultural engagement.

The Inaugural session was graced by the esteemed presence of Vasudevan Sir. Vice Chairman of Gems Arts and Science College, who inaugurated the event. 66 students were participated. His speech focused on the importance of holistic development, the role of English in global communication, and its significance in the evolving academic landscape The chief guest for the event. Ms. Kaikasi V.S., Assistant Professor of English at Government Arts and Science College Mankada, delivered an inspiring keynote address. She emphasized the importance of language skills in personal development and professional success. The event also included an interactions with students and a brief presentation on the association's upcoming activities and goals.

Second Day-31 January 2025: Cultural Programmes

The second day of the inauguration, 31 January 2025, showcased a series of vibrant cultural performances, celebrating the artistic talents of the students. The cultural program featured live performances by Violinists Sarath and Sanjoo, whose soulful melodies filled the hall. captivating the audience with their extraordinary musical talents. Students also showcased their talents in the form of various cultural programmes.

The event aimed to honor the life and literary contributions of one of Kerala's most beloved and influential writers, MT Vasudevan Nayar. The programme sought to celebrate his profound impact on Malayalam literature, focusing on his novels, short stories, and his deep connection with Kerala's socio-cultural fabric. MT's works have shaped the literary landscape of the state and continue to resonate with readers across generations. The programme venue is MP Narayanamenon hall, 70 students were participated. The commemoration began with a warm welcome speech by Abshar Mohammed P (fourth semester MA English student). Mr.Rihas KT (HOD of English derpartment) introduced the significance of MT Vasudevan Nayar's contribution to literature and also outlined his major works, particularly highlighting his ability to intertwine human emotions with social contexts, and how his stories reflect the cultural and historical evolution of Kerala.

Chief guest Dr. Muhammed Naseer K E shared his insights into MT's works, particularly his celebrated novels like, "Randamoozham" (Second Turn), and "Bhaskara Pattelarum Ente Jeevithavum". They also touched on his enduring impact on contemporary Malayalam literature, also included dramatic readings from his short stories and novels. The readings brought the audience closer to MT's narrative brilliance, with some of the most iconic moments in his literature being brought to life. On the occassion teachers conducted a quiz competion and a Poetry competition related to MTs life and works. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Rifa N. K (sixth semester BA English student) acknowledging the contributions of the students, teachers and the guest

The PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College conducted a IPR titled " A SEMINAR ON:-THE ROLE OF IPR IN PROMOTING INNOVATION AND ECONOMIC GROWTH " at MP Narayana Menon Hall on 28 march 2025 at 10.30 AM. The class was handled by Mrs. Anitha Parveen J, Head of PG Department of Social work. The Intellectual Property Right (IPR) workshop was organized with the aim of
spreading awareness about the significance of intellectual property rights in today's rapidly evolving knowledge economy. The workshop provided insights into various aspects of IPR, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, highlighting their importance in protecting innovation and fostering creativity. This programme educates participants about the basics of Intellectual Property Rights. It discusses the processes involved in applying for and
protecting IPR. The programmer also enhance awareness about the different types of intellectual property, including patents, copyrights, trademarks, and geographical indications. The resource person provides practical knowledge on how to safeguard intellectual property in the global context. Total of 57 students from both BA and MA English participated in the programme.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College conducted a Workshop titled " PROJECT/DISSERTATION WORKSHOP FOR MA AND BA ENGLISH STUDENTS" at Research and Innovation Centre on 13th January 2025 at 10.00 AM.

The class was handled by Mr.Muhammed Ali P, Assistant Professor, Unity Women's college Manjeri.. The Project and Dissertation Workshop was designed to provide essential guidance

and support for students engaged in academic research and long-term projects. The primary

focus of the workshop was to help students understand the key components of managing,

structuring, and completing their projects and dissertations successfully. This programme equip students with the necessary skills to plan and organize their dissertation or project and provide an understanding of research methodologies and how to apply them effectively. It also offers advice on writing, structuring, and presenting research findings. It guides students through the process of selecting a topic, managing time, and avoiding common pitfalls and to offer insights on referencing, academic integrity, and avoiding plagiarism. Total of 37 students from both BA and MA English participated in the program.
