The World Tourism Day celebration was held on September 27, 2024, at MP Narayanamenon Hall, bringing together tourism enthusiasts, industry professionals, and community members to recognize the significance of sustainable tourism. The event aimed to promote awareness about responsible travel practices and their impact on local communities and the environment.
Sibin P. Paul ( District Responsible Tourism Mission Coordinator) Emphasized the importance of responsible tourism in preserving cultural heritage and natural resources. Discussed initiatives undertaken by the District Responsible Tourism Mission to promote eco-friendly travel options. Encouraged local communities to participate actively in tourism development, highlighting successful local case studies.
Irfan Noufal (Executives director and COO Green Oasis Tours and Travel Group) Shared insights on current trends in the tourism industry, including the rise of experiential and sustainable travel. Highlighted the role of technology in enhancing travel experiences while ensuring environmental sustainability. Advocated for collaborative efforts between the travel industry and local stakeholders to promote responsible tourism.

As part of the Environment Day celebrations, The Department of Travel and Tourism Management in collaboration with Tourism Club organized a quiz competition on June 10, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Room number 409. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote understanding of Responsible and Sustainable Tourism, aligning with the global environmental goals and the theme of World Environment Day.
Objectives:
To educate participants about sustainable travel practices.
To encourage awareness of the environmental impact of tourism.
To highlight the role of individuals in promoting eco-friendly tourism.
Participants:
The competition saw enthusiastic participation from 31 students. Participants were grouped into teams of seven, and the event attracted a diverse and engaged audience.
Format:
The quiz comprised of Written test.
Informative questions covered topics such as eco-certifications, community-based tourism, carbon footprints, and UNESCO heritage sites.
The quiz fostered healthy competition and team spirit.
The audience also actively participated in bonus questions and discussions.
Prizes and certificates were awarded to the top three teams and all participants received certificates of appreciation.
Outcome:
The event was successful in sparking curiosity and discussion about responsible tourism practices. It helped instill a sense of responsibility among students to travel sustainably and to be more conscious of environmental impacts while exploring new places.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, in collaboration with the Tourism Club, organized a successful National Tourism Day program on January 29, 2025, at the rooftop auditorium of Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram. The event was doubly significant as it also marked the inauguration of the college's Tourism Association. The program featured a diverse range of activities, including informative sessions, interactive competitions, cultural performances, and engaging entertainment, attracting a wide audience of students and faculty.
The day commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Latheef Aslam, Assistant Professor in the Department, setting the stage for the day's events. Following this, Ms. Arathy P Rajan, HOD of the Department, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the importance of tourism and the role of the newly formed association. Mr. Sony C P, also an Assistant Professor in the Department, then felicitated the attendees. The highlight of the morning session was the official inauguration of the Tourism Association by Mr. Hamidali Vaxhakkad, a distinguished writer, traveler, and environmentalist. Mr. Vaxhakkad also delivered an inspiring inaugural address, emphasizing the connection between travel, culture, and environmental consciousness. The morning session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Abdrahiman Jasir.
Adding an element of friendly competition, "Udanpanam," a quiz program, was conducted for students from various departments. This interactive session tested their knowledge of tourism and related subjects, fostering a spirit of learning and engagement.
The afternoon session shifted its focus to the future of tourism with a presentation by Dr. Shahid Cholayil, Chairman of Mission 3G. Dr. Cholayil’s insightful talk on the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) provided a glimpse into the potential impact of technology on the tourism sector.
The program then showcased the artistic talents of the students with a vibrant dance performance, adding a cultural dimension to the celebration. The day culminated in an entertaining musical program featuring performances by Irshad Mudikkode, Haseeb NBR, and Abhi Violin, providing a perfect blend of melody and rhythm to conclude the day's festivities.
The combined celebration of Tourism Day and the Tourism Association inauguration proved to be a resounding success. The event effectively combined informative sessions with engaging entertainment, catering to a diverse audience. It provided a valuable platform for students to learn, interact, and celebrate the spirit of travel and exploration, while also marking the beginning of the Tourism Association's activities within the college. The program successfully highlighted the importance of tourism in the modern world and the potential of the newly formed association to contribute to its growth and development.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, organized a successful Mastering Research Project Planning - A Step-by-Step Guide to Project Preparation program on 9th April 2025, at the MP Narayana Menon Hall of Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram. The session aimed at guiding students and faculty members through the essential steps of research project preparation, focusing on how to effectively plan, organize, and execute a research project from the ground up. The Department of Travel and Tourism Management hosted a workshop titled Mastering Research Project Planning: A Step-by-Step Guide to Project Preparation, conducted by Dr. Abdul Rasheed M. The session, which ran from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, was held at the MP Narayana Menon Hall and was attended by students, faculty, and researchers interested in honing their research project skills.
The day commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Muhammed Ansar, Assistant Professor, Mr.Abdul Latheef Aslam C, Assistant Professor Department of Travel and Tourism Management, delivered the presidential address. Dr. Abdul Rasheed M opened the session by introducing the fundamental concepts of research project planning. He emphasized the importance of having a clear roadmap before diving into the research work. Dr. Rasheed outlined the key stages of a research project: problem identification, literature review, research design, data collection, analysis, and report writing. Dr. Abdul Rasheed M wrapped up the session by reiterating the importance of strategic planning and time management in successful research. He encouraged participants to apply the steps discussed in the workshop to their own projects and seek mentorship where needed.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, in association with the Tourism Club, organized VENTURA 2K26 – Association Inauguration and National Tourism Day Celebration on 13 February 2026 at 10:00 AM in the Library and Research Centre of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous). The programme was conducted with the objective of inaugurating the department association and celebrating National Tourism Day. The programme commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Ms. Anju K P, Assistant Professor, Department of Travel and Tourism Management. She welcomed the dignitaries, faculty members, and students of BTTM, and highlighted the importance of organizing such academic and industry-oriented programmes. The Presidential Address was delivered by Ms. Arathy P Rajan, Head of the Department of Travel and Tourism Management, who emphasized the importance of professional competence, skill development, and dedication in building a successful career in tourism and aviation sectors. The function was further enriched by felicitations delivered by the Vice Principal, Mr. Sandeepan (Head of the Department of BBA), Mr. Rihas (Faculty, PG Department of English), and Mr. Jeevesh (Faculty, Language Department). They appreciated the efforts of the department in organizing the programme and encouraged students to make use of such opportunities for academic and professional growth. The official inauguration was carried out by the esteemed chief guests, Ms. Greeshma Krishna, Senior Cabin Crew, Air India Express, and Mr. Manoj Thampan, Regional Vice President, Alhind Academy. In their inaugural addresses, they shared valuable insights from their professional experiences and motivated students to develop communication skills, confidence, and industry readiness to excel in the competitive tourism and aviation industries. Following the inaugural session, a prize distribution ceremony was conducted to honor the University Examination Rank Holders. Students who secured first, second, and third positions from each batch (first year, second year, and third year BTTM) were awarded and appreciated for their academic excellence. The programme continued with informative sessions by both chief guests. Ms. Greeshma Krishna delivered an engaging session on career opportunities in aviation, responsibilities of cabin crew, safety standards, and the importance of customer service and professional grooming. Mr. Manoj Thampan conducted an insightful session on emerging trends in the travel and tourism industry, industry expectations, skill enhancement, and career pathways. The sessions were interactive and highly beneficial for the students. The formal session concluded with a vote of thanks. In the afternoon, a film screening session was organized at the Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre.

A JOUNEY INTO THE LOGIC OF RESEARCH
The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a research-oriented academic programme titled “Inquest: A Journey into the Logic of Research” on 21 December 2025. The programme was designed to provide students with a clear understanding of the fundamentals of research, its logical framework, and its relevance in academic and professional fields. The session was held at MPN Hall and commenced at 10:00 a.m. The resource person, Mr. Muhammed Abdul Shameem TV, delivered an insightful and engaging talk on the concept of research, emphasizing the importance of logical thinking, problem identification, research design, and methodology. He explained various stages of research in a simple and practical manner, making it easy for students to grasp complex ideas. The speaker also highlighted the relevance of research in tourism studies, particularly in understanding industry trends, consumer behaviour, and sustainable development. Real-life examples and experiences were shared to motivate students to develop research aptitude and critical thinking skills. The programme witnessed active participation from students of the Department of Travel and Tourism Management. An interactive session followed the lecture, during which students raised questions related to project work, data collection methods, and career opportunities in research. The resource person addressed all queries patiently and provided valuable guidance. The programme successfully enhanced students’ understanding of the logic and importance of research. It encouraged students to approach academic projects systematically and analytically. The session also motivated students to pursue research-oriented thinking in their future academic and professional endeavours. The Department expresses its sincere gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and to all participants for making the programme a success.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management organized a Peer Teaching Programme – “Bhavishya 2025: Peer Plus” on 21st October 2025 as part of its academic enrichment activities. The session was conducted from 11:35 AM to 12:30 PM in Room No. 410.
The peer teaching session was handled by Fathima Nidha T and Ansila P, students of 3RD Semester BTTM, on the topic “Advanced Technologies in the Tourism Industry.” The objective of the session was to enhance collaborative learning and to promote student-led knowledge sharing on emerging trends in tourism.
The presenters explained how technological innovations such as Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and Smart Tourism Systems are revolutionizing the global tourism sector. They also discussed real-world examples of technology integration in hospitality, travel booking, and destination marketing.
The session was highly interactive, with active participation from students who shared their insights and raised questions about the impact of technology on sustainable tourism and customer experience. The discussion helped participants understand the importance of adopting new technologies for improving efficiency and competitiveness in the tourism industry.
Overall, the Bhavishya 2025 – Peer Plus session was informative and engaging. It provided a valuable platform for students to develop their presentation skills, subject knowledge, and confidence through peer-to-peer learning.

As part of the Environment Day celebrations, the Department of Travel and Tourism, in collaboration with the Tourism Club, organized a Poster Making Competition on 5 June 2026 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM in Room No. 106. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about environmental conservation, sustainable living, and the importance of protecting natural resources. It also sought to enhance students’ understanding of environmental issues and encourage them to become responsible citizens committed to environmental sustainability. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from eight students of Semester 3 and Semester 5. The theme of the competition was “Promoting Environmental Awareness, Responsible Travel, and a Sustainable Future.” The guidelines specified that participation was individual, posters had to be original and hand-drawn on A3-sized sheets, any drawing medium could be used except digital art, and the posters had to reflect the given theme. The participants displayed remarkable creativity and awareness through their posters, effectively conveying messages related to environmental protection and sustainable living. Hana Harish (S3) secured the First Prize, while Sreya V (S3) and Fathima Nidha T (S5) shared the Second Prize. Sanjay C (S3) won the Third Prize. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners, and all participants received certificates of appreciation. The event was a great success in promoting environmental awareness and inspiring students to contribute towards a greener, cleaner, and healthier planet.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management at GEMS College, in collaboration with the Alhind Group and IQAC, conducted a Career Awareness Programme on Travel and Tourism on December 2, 2024. The event highlighted diverse career opportunities in the travel and tourism industry, featuring insights from experts like Premjith (Retd. Airline Manager), who emphasized soft skills for the airline sector; Junaid (Head of Crew Counselor, United Airlines), who detailed qualifications for aviation careers; and Sahadevan (VP, Alhind Academy), who outlined specialized training programs. The program inspired students and professionals to explore and excel in this dynamic field.
