The Training & Placement Cell organized a training session for teachers titled “Understanding Student Preference & Job Category Awareness – Phase 2” on 29 July 2026 at MP Narayana Menon Hall. The session was conducted with the objective of strengthening teachers’ understanding of students’ career preferences and creating greater awareness about different job categories and placement opportunities. The programme aimed to Develop teachers’ understanding of students’ career interests and job preferences. To Create awareness about various job categories and emerging career opportunities. Enable teachers to provide more effective career guidance and placement support to students. Familiarize faculty members with the MySkillDB placement tool.

Session Details:

The session was handled by Mr. Ajay Krishnan, Product Strategist & Technology Leader, MySkillDB. The resource person provided valuable insights into understanding students’ career aspirations and identifying suitable job categories based on their interests, skills, qualifications, and career goals. A significant component of the session was the introduction to MySkillDB, a placement-oriented tool designed to support an organized and efficient placement process. Faculty members were introduced to the various aspects of the tool and its relevance in understanding student profiles, career preferences, and placement requirements. The session also emphasized the importance of faculty involvement in the placement ecosystem. Teachers were encouraged to understand the changing employment landscape and guide students towards suitable career pathways based on their individual strengths and aspirations. The training session enhanced faculty members’ awareness of students’ career preferences and the diverse job opportunities available in the current employment market. Participants gained an understanding of how technology-enabled placement tools such as MySkillDB can support systematic student profiling and placement management. The session also encouraged faculty members to play a more active role in identifying student aspirations, guiding them towards suitable career options, and strengthening the overall placement ecosystem of the institution. The “Understanding Student Preference & Job Category Awareness – Phase 2” training session was a valuable initiative towards developing a more student-centric and systematic placement process. The insights shared by Mr. Ajay Krishnan helped faculty members understand their role in supporting students’ career development while also familiarizing them with tools and procedures for effective placement management. The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized the Student Induction Programme (SIP) 2026–27 for newly admitted first-year MSW students on 16 and 17 July 2026. The programme aimed to familiarize students with the department, MSW curriculum, communication skills, professional social work, and field education.The programme featured an Ice-Breaking Session and Introduction to Field Work by Mr. Muhibbul Haque P, a session on Sociological Frameworks in Communication by Mr. Abhin P.C., a Department Introduction by Mr. Anas Tharakan, an Introduction to Social Work by Ms. Thasleema Jaleel, and "വായന, സർഗാത്മകത, ജീവിതം" by Mr. Jeevesh M. The programme concluded successfully with enthusiastic participation from the first-year MSW students. It provided a comprehensive orientation to the department, academic structure, professional values, communication skills, and field work, helping students begin their MSW journey with confidence.

As part of the birth anniversary observance of Premchand, the eminent Hindi-Urdu writer renowned for his portrayal of rural life and agrarian society, the Department of Languages, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organised an outreach programme to honour farmers and agricultural labourers by presenting them with Onakkodi. The initiative aimed to foster students' appreciation of agricultural communities, rural livelihoods, and the social relevance of Premchand's literary contributions.
The programme provided students with experiential learning opportunities through interactions with farmers and visits to paddy fields, vegetable farms, and coffee plantations, thereby strengthening their understanding of agriculture, rural life, and the dignity of labour.

The PG Department of English Language & Literature, in collaboration with the Film Club of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), successfully conducted the academic session "Ways of Watching: Core Concepts in Film Studies". The event took place yesterday on Thursday, 16 July 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm in Room 402 of the college campus. Sanal Sudhakaran, an Assistant Professor from the Department of Multimedia, served as the resource person, bringing valuable interdisciplinary expertise to the department's initiative.

By organizing this session, the English department aimed to expand the students' analytical horizons beyond traditional literature into the realm of visual narratives. Under the motto "Let's watch. Let's think Let's understand," the program enabled attendees to grasp core theoretical concepts in film studies and develop critical skills for interpreting movies. The department's collaborative effort effectively taught students how to connect cinematic techniques with narrative, ideology, and culture.

The session concluded with an interactive feedback loop, allowing students to clarify doubts and actively discuss modem cinematic trends with the speaker. Following this lively exchange, a formal vote of thanks was extended to the resource person, management, and organizing committee for executing the event smoothly. Overall, the program successfully achieved its academic goals, leaving the student community inspired and equipped with a fresh, analytical lens to decode visual storytelling.

The Training and Placement Cell of in association with IQAC organized a two-day Orientation Session on the Infosys CSR Activity – Unnati-UNXT for final-year students on 22nd and 23rd July 2026 at M. P. Narayana Menon Hall from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM.

The session was conducted by Mr. Gopal Krishnan P., an experienced trainer, who introduced students to the Infosys CSR Unnati-UNXT initiative. The orientation focused on creating awareness about the program, its objectives, eligibility criteria, registration process, and the wide range of industry-relevant skill development courses offered under the initiative. The resource person emphasized the importance of enhancing employability skills, digital competencies, communication abilities, and professional readiness to meet current industry expectations.Students actively participated in the interactive session, clarifying their queries regarding the training modules, certification, and career opportunities available through the program. The trainer also motivated students to utilize the platform to strengthen their technical and soft skills, thereby improving their prospects for internships and placements.

The orientation concluded with an encouraging response from the participants, who appreciated the informative session and expressed their willingness to enrol in the Unnati-UNXT program. The programme proved to be a valuable initiative in guiding final-year students toward industry-oriented learning and career development.

The Department of Computer Science, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a Hands-on Networking Workshop titled "NETLAB" on 17 July 2026 from 10.00 AM to 3.30 PM in the Computer Science Laboratory.
The programme aimed to provide students with practical exposure to computer networking concepts and hands-on experience in configuring and troubleshooting network devices. The workshop was conducted by Mr. Noufel Nalakath, Managing Director & Technical Head, Pinnacle Technologies, Malappuram, who has extensive industrial experience in networking and IT infrastructure.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Head of the Department, followed by the introduction of the resource person. During the first session, the resource person explained the fundamentals of computer networking, including network architectures, IP addressing, routing, switching, network devices, and communication protocols.
The second session focused on practical demonstrations using the NETLAB environment. Students actively participated in configuring network devices, creating local area networks, assigning IP addresses, Crimping, testing connectivity using networking tools, and identifying common network issues. The resource person also demonstrated troubleshooting techniques and best practices followed in the networking industry.
The interactive session enabled students to clarify their doubts regarding networking technologies, certification opportunities, and career prospects in networking and cybersecurity. The workshop concluded with a feedback session and vote of thanks. Students appreciated the practical approach of the programme and gained valuable hands-on experience that complemented their theoretical knowledge. The event successfully enhanced students' technical competencies and encouraged them to explore advanced networking technologies.

The Club Dream Unlockers of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) successfully organised “Unlock Your Dream: LinkedIn Workshop” on 17 July 2026 at the Research Centre. The workshop aimed to equip students with the knowledge and practical skills required to create a professional LinkedIn profile and effectively utilise the platform for career development, networking, internships, and employment opportunities.
The programme commenced with a formal welcome by the club coordinator, Dr Shibila A. The resource person, Dr Shani A. Mopila, highlighted the growing significance of LinkedIn as a professional networking platform and emphasised the importance of building a strong digital identity in today's competitive job market. During the session, Dr Shani provided a comprehensive overview of LinkedIn and guided participants through the process of creating and optimising a professional profile. The workshop covered essential aspects such as selecting an appropriate profile photograph, writing an effective headline and summary, showcasing academic achievements, projects, certifications, and skills, requesting recommendations, and building a professional network. The participants were also introduced to LinkedIn features, including job search, networking etiquette, personal branding, content creation, and profile visibility.
The workshop adopted a hands-on approach, enabling participants to update or create their LinkedIn profiles in real time. Students actively participated in the interactive discussions and clarified their doubts regarding networking strategies, career planning, and the effective use of LinkedIn for higher education and employment prospects. The programme concluded with a lively question-and-answer session, followed by a vote of thanks by Muhammed Faris CK. The participants expressed their appreciation for the informative and practical nature of the workshop and acknowledged its relevance in preparing them for the professional world.
The LinkedIn Workshop successfully achieved its objectives by enhancing students’ digital professional competencies and encouraging them to develop a credible online presence. The programme served as a valuable initiative in empowering students to expand their professional networks, explore career opportunities, and build a strong personal brand in the digital era.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, successfully inaugurated its flagship Polyphony: International Lecture Series on 23 July 2026 at the Prem Nazir Theatre. The pilot episode, titled "Reading and Creative Writing: In Conversation with Benyamin," marked the beginning of a series envisioned to foster literary engagement, critical thinking, and meaningful dialogue between academia and distinguished writers.

The programme commenced at 10:00 a.m. with an invocation, followed by the Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Shibila A, Coordinator, Assistant Professor, PG Department of English Language and Literature. Mr. Amal Sankar G, Head of the Department, delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the department's vision behind initiating the international lecture series. The gathering was then addressed by Dr. Naveen Mohan, Principal, who introduced the institution and emphasized the importance of creating platforms for interaction with eminent literary personalities.

The Chief Guest, Mr. Benyamin, was formally introduced by Mr. Rihas K.T., Assistant Professor.
The Polyphony: International Lecture Series was officially inaugurated by Mr. Benyamin.

The inaugural session also included felicitations by Mr. Jeevesh M., Assistant Professor, Department of Languages; and Dr. Abdussamad, Assistant Professor, Department of Languages; Directors Muhammed Ali, and VN Laila.

The inaugural ural session concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. K. Keerthy, Assistant Professor, PG Department of English Language and Literature.

The highlight of the morning session was the Keynote Lecture by Mr. Benyamin on "Reading and Creative Writing." Drawing from his rich literary journey, he discussed the craft of storytelling, the challenges of transforming literary works into films, and the evolving relationship between literature and cinema. Sharing experiences from the adaptation of his acclaimed novel Aadujeevitham, he inspired students to approach creative writing with authenticity, imagination, and social responsibility. The session was highly interactive and provided valuable insights into the creative process.

Following the lunch break, the afternoon session titled "Beyond the Pages: Creative Interaction with Benyamin"was welcomed by Ms. Hina Hanan, Assistant Professor. Students showcased their creativity through a theatrical presentation from Aadujeevitham by Siya Sulov and Team, followed by a book review by Shibna Mustafa, musical performances by Sajitha Neha and Fathima Jebin K.T. The students also presented portraits and other creative works to the Chief Guest as a token of admiration and appreciation.

The programme culminated in an engaging interactive session with Mr. Benyamin, during which students and faculty members actively participated by asking questions on literature, writing, publishing, and cinematic adaptation. His thoughtful responses, practical advice, and encouraging words made the session intellectually enriching and memorable.

The Valedictory Session featured reflections from participants, followed by the Valedictory Address delivered by Mr. Vijayesh Babu, Assistant Professor, PG Department of English Language and Literature. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Fathima Hamna S2 M.A. English, expressing gratitude to the management, Chief Guest, faculty members, students, and all those who contributed to the grand success of the inaugural edition of Polyphony: International Lecture Series

The programme was a resounding success, providing students with an exceptional opportunity to engage directly with one of India's most celebrated contemporary writers. It reflected the department's commitment to promoting literary scholarship, interdisciplinary learning, and meaningful academic conversations, laying a strong foundation for future editions of the Polyphony International Lecture Series.

The Women Development Cell of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), in association with Amora Healthtech, successfully organized "Cup of Change", an awareness session on Menstrual Hygiene and Menstrual Cup, at MPN Hall. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 125 students and volunteers, making it one of the most impactful health initiatives.

The core objective of "Cup of Change" was to create a space where menstruation could be discussed openly, factually, and without stigma. The session aimed to move beyond silence and misinformation by focusing on two key areas like personal health and environmental responsibility. Participants were introduced to scientific facts about menstrual hygiene, common health risks caused by poor practices, and practical ways to manage menstruation safely. A major focus was also placed on sustainable menstrual practices, with menstrual cups presented as a reusable, cost-effective, and eco-friendly alternative to conventional disposable products.

The session was led by Ms. Shaniba Palliyal and Mr. Charles Vinod Kumar from Amora Healthtech. Through an engaging combination of awareness talks, live demonstrations, and open discussions, they addressed questions that are often considered taboo. The demonstration covered everything from understanding different types of cups, to folding techniques, insertion, removal, and proper cleaning and maintenance. This hands-on approach helped demystify the product and built confidence among participants.

What made the session truly impactful was the atmosphere of openness it created. Students asked questions freely, shared concerns, and actively participated in busting myths that have long surrounded menstruation. The discussion also highlighted the environmental burden of single-use sanitary products and how small individual choices can contribute to larger ecological benefits.

With 125+ participants, "Cup of Change" achieved its objective of spreading awareness, encouraging informed choices, and starting honest conversations. The event ended with participants leaving not just with information, but with a shift in perspective, from hesitation to understanding, from stigma to acceptance, and from wasteful habits to sustainable ones.

PG Department of Commerce in association with IQAC organized a Reel Competition on the occasion of World Environment Day 2026 under the theme “Capture Nature @ GEMS.” The competition aimed to promote environmental awareness and encourage students to creatively showcase the beauty of nature and the importance of environmental conservation within the college campus through short video reels.
The competition was open to all students of the institution. Participants were required to create and submit original reels highlighting environmental conservation, campus greenery, sustainability, and eco-friendly practices. A total of five students actively participated in the competition and presented their creative perspectives on environmental protection.
The submitted reels were evaluated based on creativity, relevance to the theme, presentation, and the effectiveness of the environmental message conveyed. After careful evaluation, Mr. Adil Sinan, Third Semester BA Multimedia, was declared the winner of the competition for his outstanding reel that effectively captured the essence of the theme.
A memento and certificate of achievement were presented to the winner in recognition of his creativity and contribution towards promoting environmental awareness. The programme successfully encouraged students to engage with environmental issues and utilize digital media as a platform for social awareness.
