The Department of Multimedia, in collaboration with IQAC, organized an invited lecture as part of the Day 5 Student Induction Program on the theme “Gender in Media.” The session was aimed at sensitizing students to gender representations and biases in the media landscape. The resource person, Ms. Anitha Parveen J, delivered an insightful lecture, discussing key issues surrounding gender portrayals, stereotypes, inclusivity, and media responsibility.
A total of 35 first-year BA Multimedia students actively participated in the session. The session provided students with a critical understanding of how gender roles are constructed and represented in media. It also encouraged them to think critically about the role of media in shaping social perceptions and gender equality.

As part of the Student Induction Program 2025, the Department of Multimedia, in collaboration with IQAC, conducted a Bridging Session on the topic “Ethics in Multimedia” on 15th July 2025 at 1:30 PM in Classroom 406. The session was handled by Mr. Mohammed Shammas K, Assistant Professor, Department of Multimedia.
The session focused on introducing first-year students to the importance of ethical considerations in the multimedia field. Topics such as intellectual property rights, copyright issues, responsible content creation, and digital ethics were discussed. Mr. Shammas emphasized the need for budding media professionals to maintain integrity and accountability in all aspects of media production and communication.
A total of 36 students from BA Multimedia actively participated in the session. The students engaged in interactive discussions and shared their thoughts on real-world ethical dilemmas in media. The session proved to be insightful and helped students bridge the gap between academic learning and professional ethical practice.

The PG Department of Applied Geology successfully organised a two-day workshop on GT Aide, a global field planning tool designed to enhance geological data collection and analysis. The workshop aimed to familiarise participants with the application’s features, functions, and benefits in field mapping, data integration, and decision-making processes.
The objectives were to
To introduce GT Aide as a modern tool for field planning.To demonstrate its practical applications in geological studies.To provide hands-on training for students and faculty members.To enhance participants’ technical skills in field data management.

The Department of Multimedia and Film Club of GEMS Arts and Science College organized an Inter Collegiate Film Screening and Discussion on 18th August 2025. The event was conducted in association with Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannur, and Malabar College of Advanced Studies, Vengara. The theme of the program was “A Cinematic Journey to Promoting Human Rights and Values.”
The featured film for the screening was “The Terminal” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The film, which deals with themes of humanity, dignity, resilience, and human rights, was chosen to inspire students to reflect on the importance of values in contemporary society. Following the screening, an interactive discussion session was held where students shared their perspectives on the film and its relevance to human rights and cultural values.
Students of the Department of Multimedia, GEMS College actively participated in the program. Additionally, a few invited students from Majlis Arts and Science College, Puramannur, and Malabar College of Advanced Studies, Vengara, also joined the event. Faculty members from the Department of Multimedia and representatives of the Film Club were also present, guiding the discussion session.
The program proved to be highly engaging and insightful. Students not only enjoyed the cinematic experience but also gained a deeper understanding of human rights and values through the narrative of the film. The inter-collegiate participation added diversity to the discussions, enriching the viewpoints shared. The session successfully met its objective of promoting critical thinking, intercultural dialogue, and the role of cinema as a tool for social awareness.

The PG Department of Social Work organized a four-day Student Induction Program (SIP) 2025 for the first-year MSW students of the academic year 2025–2027. The program aimed to familiarize students with the field of social work, build rapport among peers and faculty, orient parents, and equip students with essential skills for academic and professional growth. On Day 1 (17 July 2025), Ms. Anitha Parveen J, Head of the PG Department of Social Work, led a session titled “The First Step: Understanding the Social Work Road Map”, introducing students to the values, principles, and scope of the profession while outlining the academic expectations. Day 2 (18 July 2025) featured an ice- breaking session titled “Mix & Mingle: The Social Work Edition”, facilitated by Mr. Sarath K and Mr. Anas Tharakan, Assistant Professors, which helped students and faculty engage and build a sense of belonging. On Day 3 (21 July 2025), the program included two sessions: the first, “Home and Field: Parents&; Role in Social Work Learning”, was an orientation for parents emphasizing their supportive role in the student’s learning journey; the second, “Beyond the Classroom: Introduction to Field Work”, was handled by Ms. Gopika M, Assistant Professor, highlighting the significance, components, and learning outcomes of fieldwork. The final session on Day 4 (31 July 2025), titled “Voice and Vision: The Art of Effective Speech”, was conducted by Mr. Rihas K.T., International Public Speaking Trainer and Assistant Professor, PG Department of English, focusing on developing students&; communication and public speaking skills, thereby concluding the induction program on a confident and empowering note.

The PG Department of English language and literature organized an insightful program entitled 'One day workshop on Business Analytics and Digital Marketing' on 29th July 2025 at M.P. Narayana Menon Hall. The session was led by two distinguished experts Professor Srinivas Principal, Bangalore independent PU College, and Dr.Roshan
Zameer Ahammed, academic operations
manager,Bangalore integrated management academy. The program aimed to equip students and faculty with a comprehensive understanding of the growing relevance of data analytics and digital marketing in the modern business world. Professor Srinivas elaborated on the applications of analytics in decision-making processes, emphasizing tools and techniques used in real-world scenarios. Dr. Roshan Zameer Ahammed provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of digital marketing, discussing current trends, strategies, and the importance of online presence in business growth. The interactive session concluded with a Q&A segment, allowing participants to clarify doubts and engage directly with the speakers. The event was well-received and proved to be highly beneficial for students and faculty alike, contributing significantly to their academic and professional enrichment. 85 students are actively participated in the program.

As part of the observance of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the Anti Human Trafficking Club of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized a film screening on 31st July 2025. The screening featured the internationally acclaimed film "Trade" (2007), which powerfully portrays the harsh realities and human impact of trafficking.
The program aimed to raise awareness among students about the global issue of human trafficking and to foster empathy and critical thinking through visual storytelling. A total of 67 students from various departments participated in the event.
The screening was followed by an open discussion where students shared their reflections and thoughts on the issue. The session helped deepen understanding of the emotional and social consequences of trafficking and emphasized the urgent need for collective action against such exploitation.
The program successfully met its objective of sensitizing students to the critical issue of human trafficking and reinforcing their role as socially responsible individuals.
