The PG Department of English Language and Literature at GEMS Arts and Science College organized a programme titled “Breaking the Varna: Challenging the Hierarchy, Changing the Narrative” on July 30, 2025. The event, attended by 27 S3 BA English students, aimed to deepen their understanding of the caste system and its portrayal in contemporary narratives, aligning with their “Literary and Cultural Narratives for Languages” syllabus.
The programme began with a screening of the movie ARM (Ajayante Randam Moshanam) at the Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre. The film was chosen for its rich use of cultural and mythological references, providing a compelling foundation for academic discussion. A total of 27 Students from S3 BA English attended the program.
Following the screening, a faculty-moderated group discussion was held. Students actively participated, analyzing how the film used ancient narratives to critique modern social hierarchies. The conversation focused on the movie’s portrayal of the caste system, its impact on individuals, and whether its narrative successfully challenged traditional power structures.
The programme was a resounding success, effectively transforming a passive movie-watching experience into an active learning session. By combining a cinematic narrative with critical analysis, the event successfully fostered empathy, social awareness, and critical thinking among students, reinforcing the role of literature and film as tools for social change.

The programs and the activities to be undertaken by both the institutions are as follows :Student mobility and  mini project and short term training  programs; ,Academic programs collaborations; ,Joint publication and research activities; Scholarly activities such as courses, seminars, trainings, conferences, and symposiums jointly organized by either of the Parties and other activities and programs as may be mutually agreed upon by the Parties. The term for partnership between the two institutions  shall be for  five (5) years from the date  of signing the  MOU.  GEMS Arts & Science college  has signed quite a number of MoU between the R&D institutions and Universities within India and International so far .Such collaboration with the institutions & universities certainly improve the quality of the education system in both academic & research fronts  at a very high level, and that is the ultimate goal , informed  by the Director, Academic & Research in the press release

GEMS Arts and Science College, in collaboration with the Department of Biotechnology, University of Calicut, successfully conducted the first lecture in the Popular Lecture Series, sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, at the University of Calicut on 2nd August 2025 . The program was held at the Aryabhatta auditorium , University of Calicut​, and it was inaugurated by the Prof. ( Dr.) P.Raveendran, Vice Chancellor Calicut University..

The lecture was delivered by Prof. C. Gopinathan, Department of Biotechnology, on the topic “High Rate Biomethanation: Scale-Up Issues and Opportunities.” In his talk, Prof. Gopinathan discussed the potential of biomethanation as a sustainable waste-to-energy technology and highlighted the critical challenges faced during the scale-up process of biomethanation systems. He elaborated on the design of bioreactors, microbial efficiency, energy recovery, and the need for innovation to make large-

scale biomethanation commercially viable and environmentally friendly. The lecture marked an important step in promoting awareness of advanced biotechnological applications and encouraging interdisciplinary dialogue. The Popular Lecture Series aims to bring together experts and learners on a common platform to discuss contemporary scientific issues and foster a spirit of inquiry.

      The lecture was very much appreciated by the students of nearby schools, colleges and the faculties attended the function. Prof. Anu Joseph Head of the Department Biotechnology, other faculties, Dr.Sandhya  Balakrishnan Principal Investigator of the project, and Dr.A Finose  Director IQAC  along with the  faculties from GEMS college also attended the function. The session was well-received and appreciated by all attendees for its relevance and academic depth.

The PG Department of Social Work organized Alumni Lecture Series-6 was conducted on July 18, 2025, from 10 am to 11 am in the PG block (room no 901). The topic was “The Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 and Major Schemes by the Social Justice Department.” The speaker was Muhammad Kasim, Technical Assistant, Sub Collector, Perinthalmanna. Total number of 27 students where participated .

The Act aims to protect the economic, social, and mental welfare of senior citizens in India. Key provisions include maintenance and financial support from children or legal heirs to senior citizens or parents who can’t take care of themselves, protection against abuse and neglect, and tribunals for maintenance disputes at the district level.

Awareness about the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, was expected to be raised among participants. Understanding of major schemes by the Social Justice Department for senior citizens and discussion on the implementation and impact of the Act were also expected outcomes.

The Department of Multimedia, in association with the Information and Publication Committee and IQAC, GEMS Arts and Science College, organized a book launch event on 1st August 2025 at 2:00 PM in the M.P. Narayanamenon Hall. The program marked the official release of a new book authored by Mr. Suhailudheen T., Assistant Professor, Department of Multimedia. The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Jeevesh M., a renowned Malayalam poet and writer, who attended as the chief guest and delivered an inspiring address.
The program began with a welcome speech, followed by the formal book release. Mr. Suhailudheen T. presented a special reading from his book and shared valuable insights into his creative process and the themes explored in his writing. His address was both engaging and motivational, especially for students aspiring to explore creative fields.
Students from the second year of the Multimedia department actively participated in the event, along with faculty members from various departments of GEMS ASC. Their enthusiastic presence made the event lively and interactive. The program concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of all who contributed to the successful organization of this meaningful literary gathering.

Report on Pathfinder – Goal Setting and Sharpen skill Session
The Training and Placement Cell organized an inspiring session titled “Pathfinder – Goal Setting and Sharpen Skills” for the final year students. The session was conducted by Ms. Safa M. P., Trainer and Motivational Speaker, who delivered an impactful and highly engaging session on personal and professional goal setting.
Ms. Safa began the session by encouraging each student to write down their dreams and aspirations, setting a reflective and motivational tone. Using this activity as a foundation, she navigated the students through the importance of having a clear vision, setting achievable goals, and working consistently towards them.
Throughout the session, she shared several powerful life experiences and real-world examples, which deeply resonated with the students. Her dynamic approach and interactive style kept the audience engaged, making the session both thought-provoking and enjoyable.
Students participated actively, and the session sparked a lot of personal introspection and enthusiasm among them. The feedback received was overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing that the session helped them gain clarity about their future and motivated them to take proactive steps towards their career goals.
Overall, the Pathfinder session served as a meaningful and motivating experience for the final year students as they prepare for their professional journeys ahead.

The PG Department of Microbiology, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a digital outreach initiative titled “Microbiome 101: What You Need to Know” to mark World Microbiome Day on 27th June 2025. The highlight of the event was the release of an informative and engaging official reel on the department’s Instagram page. Designed and curated by postgraduate students and faculty, the reel emphasized the importance of the microbiome in human health and environmental balance, presenting key facts and recent scientific findings.

The initiative witnessed active participation and positive feedback from students, faculty, and the online audience, who appreciated the reel’s clarity, creativity, and educational value. By utilizing social media, the department extended the reach of microbiological awareness beyond the campus. This digital venture reflects the department’s commitment to innovative science communication and marks a successful integration of education and media to promote interest in microbiological sciences.

The PG Department of Microbiology, GEMS Arts and Science College, organized a Monsoon Awareness Program titled “Be Heroes in Monsoon” as part of its community outreach. Aimed at educating school children about health issues during the rainy season, the event began with the official release of an informative, child-friendly pamphlet by the Principal. It covered personal hygiene, waterborne and vector-borne disease prevention, and safe food and water practices.
UG and PG Microbiology students visited ALP School, Pathiramanna, where they conducted interactive sessions using visual aids and simple demonstrations to effectively communicate key messages. Students actively participated, making the sessions both fun and educational.
Pamphlets were distributed to all children, reinforcing the lessons shared. The event allowed college students to apply theoretical knowledge practically, enhancing their communication and outreach skills. The program successfully promoted health awareness and was well-received by both school authorities and students, marking it as a commendable initiative.

It is with great pleasure that the English Department and Placement Cell of our College is conducting a transformative session on ' Navigating the Global Landscape '. Hope we will be thrilled to reinvent our skills and potential through the words, thoughts and strategies of Dr Salman Ali(Associate Professor. IIM KOZHIKODE ).
More than theoretical premises the session will be a TAKE OFF to the horizons of Knowledge and wisdom. We are committed to connect and equip our students to maintain Global Competence and Productivity. It's time to truncate the unwanted notions and we need to reinforce the roots of progress and intellectual glory. Hope the session will be a master narrative to catalyse the dynamism of our students to confront the carrier crossroads and future aspirations.

The Training and Placement Cell of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized an orientation program for all final-year students with the objective of preparing them for upcoming campus placements and career opportunities.The session began with a welcome address by the Placement Officer Ms.Haritha Viswanath who highlighted the vital role of the Training and Placement Cell in bridging the gap between academia and the industry. She provided an overview of the placement activities scheduled for the academic year and emphasized the importance of active participation and preparation.
