As part of the MSW curriculum, the Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, organized a seven-day Community Living Camp at Pinavoorkudy, Kuttampuzha Panchayat, Ernakulam District, from 22nd to 28th August 2025. The camp was designed as an intensive field-based program to foster direct interaction with tribal communities and to promote a deeper understanding of their socio-economic, cultural, and developmental contexts.
The camp provided trainees with opportunities to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical exposure in areas such as community development, rural governance, public health, education, and livelihood practices. By living in close association with the tribal community, trainees were able to observe and analyze grassroots realities, including challenges of poverty, limited infrastructure, dependence on forest produce, and preservation of indigenous traditions.
Key activities included orientation sessions, theater workshop, community visits, PRA exercises, social mapping, awareness initiatives, and cultural programs. These experiences not only enhanced professional competencies such as leadership, teamwork, participatory learning, communication, and problem-solving but also adaptability Overall, the Pinavoorkudy camp served as a transformative learning platform, strengthening the professional growth of MSW trainees.

The P.G. Department of Social Work organized a National NGO Visit for the 2nd year MSW students as part of the III Semester curriculum. The visit was held from 31st August 2025 to 11th September 2025. As part of the program, the students visited two major organizations in Kolkata. The first was the Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee (DMSC), which works for the welfare, safety, and empowerment of sex workers in Sonagachi, one of the largest red-light areas in the city.

The second visit was to Mother Teresa Tomp (Mother House), which holds great significance as Mother Teresa spent her last years there. The institution continues her legacy by carrying forward the charitable works she initiated, serving the poor, the sick, and the marginalized with compassion and dedication. Following the Kolkata visit, the team proceeded to Sikkim and Darjeeling, where they explored various social, cultural, and developmental aspects relevant to their academic learning. A total of 22 students and 2 faculty members actively participated in this visit, which provided valuable exposure and enriched the students’ professional and personal learning experience.

The PG Department of Social Work at, Gems Arts and Science College, conducted its 8th Alumni Lecture Series on September 22, 2025, on "The Role of Social Worker as a Community Women Facilitator." The event began with a welcome speech by Sayooj K K, setting the tone for the lecture and introducing the esteemed speaker, Irfana Thasni V. Irfana Thasni V, a seasoned Community Women Facilitator, led the session, sharing her expertise and experience with 37 MSW students. The lecture covered key aspects of community organization, women empowerment, and the roles of a community organizer. The event was a success, providing students with valuable insights and practical knowledge that will shape their future practice in social work. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Shehma Serin CP, expressing gratitude to Irfana Thasni V for sharing her valuable expertise and to the students for their active participation.

An orientation program on the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) was organized for the BA Sociology students on 20th September 2026 from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM through an online platform. The program aimed to provide students with insights into the CUET examination and preparation strategies, particularly relevant for those aspiring for postgraduate studies in central universities.

The session featured two distinguished resource persons – Mr. Ahammed Sukhroof and Mr. Muhammed Arshad, both currently pursuing their Postgraduate studies in Sociology at the Central University of Punjab. They shared their personal experiences with CUET, preparation tips, study resources, and time management strategies. Their presentations were informative and engaging, offering valuable guidance to the participants.

The program commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Aravind Kr., a student representative, who warmly welcomed the guests and participants. Around 30 students from various batches attended the session and actively participated in the discussion.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Anusree P.K., a final-year BA Sociology student, who expressed gratitude to the resource persons, faculty, and participants for making the event successful.

The event was coordinated by Assistant Professor Nimmi Ayyappan Parambil, who ensured the smooth conduct of the program. In the concluding segment, both the Head of the Department, Dr. Abhin P.C., and the coordinator shared their reflections on the session, encouraging students to make the most of such opportunities for academic and career advancement.

The Department of Multimedia, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), in collaboration with Iluzia Lab, Calicut Cyber Park, and Leaders Launch under the Training and Placement Cell, organized an academic program titled Career Steps 2K25: “NextGen Vision – Exploring AI & Mixed Reality Careers” on 18th September 2025 at M.P.N Hall.

This program was held as part of the MoU functioning for the academic year 2025–2026 between the Department of Multimedia, GEMS ASC, and Iluzia Lab, Calicut Cyber Park. A total of 89 students from the Department of Multimedia actively participated in the event.

The session was graced by Mr. Noufal P, Founder and CEO of Iluzia Lab, Calicut Cyber Park, as the chief guest. In his keynote address, he highlighted the emerging opportunities in Artificial Intelligence, Augmented Reality, and Mixed Reality, emphasizing their growing relevance in shaping next-generation careers.

As part of the program, the department also conducted the release of Multimedia Productions, which included the Photography Magazine (2024 Batch), Cinema Magazine (2023 Batch), and a Music Video (2023 Batch). These creative works reflected the professional talents and innovative spirit of the students.

The event was a significant step in strengthening academic–industry collaboration and inspiring students to explore futuristic career paths.

Bindu. @ Excellentia’25. This milestone is not just an accolade but also a motivation to set new benchmarks in higher education and contribute meaningfully to society.

Dr.BG Unni Director Academic & research delivered the 26th Foundation day of the institute on 5th September 2025. The title of his lecture was “ Muga , (Antheraea Assama ) silkworm and his two decades of research experience”.

        The meeting was attended by the official representing Silk board from North East India, Farmers, Members of Assam Science Society and students. schedule of classes and the subjects for online teaching for the faculties of GEMS Arts & Science college in the coming semester​, and also decided to communicate the time schedule to our college by the UCSI university. They may also issue a visiting professor status to our faculties who will be teaching the students of UCSI university. In addition to this other points such as the students' mutual visits and joint collaborative projects and probable fundings etc were also raised at the meeting by Dr.BG Unni , Director Academic & research. In addition to Director Academic Research​, Dr.Finose, Asst Professor& Director IQAC, Dr.Sijimol, Dr.Nayana Asst Professors, Ms Haritha Coordinating the international program were also at the meeting. Dr.Naveen Mohan , Principal of the college who is also the one of the visiting faculty in the area of Microbiology could not attend the meeting. However his schedule for the classes will also be finalized by the Deputy Dean, UCSI University. The online meeting ended with an appreciation note  by Director Academic & Research to  Prof.Por Choo for his keen interest in collaboration with GEMS College. The Women Development Cell (WDC) and PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College Autonomous successfully organized a program in association with the Department of Women and Child Development on "Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005" on 10th September 2025 at MP Narayana Menon Hall to raise awareness and empower students against domestic violence.

The program commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Ashima Thodengal, Assistant Professor and WDC Coordinator, who set the tone for the event. This was followed by a presidential address by Ms. Sulthana Afroza PP, Head of the Department of English Language and Literature, who emphasized the significance of the Domestic Violence Act 2005 and the role of institutions in promoting awareness and support for survivors.

The highlight of the program was the guest talk by Ms. Sruthi T M, Women Protection Officer, Women and Child Development Department, Malappuram. She provided valuable insights into the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act and offered practical advice on supporting survivors. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Sreeparvathy, a student of III Semester English.

The outcomes aligned with SDGs focusing on Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The event successfully sensitised students about domestic violence, its impact, and the importance of supporting survivors, empowering them to take informed actions and promote a culture of equality, justice, and respect.
