The PG Department of General Microbiology conducted a week-long orientation program from 11th to 18th July 2025 to welcome newly admitted undergraduate students and acquaint them with the department’s academic culture and learning environment. The session series began with an Institutional and Departmental Introduction by Ms. Resna N. K., Head of the Department, who outlined the department’s vision and academic opportunities. An engaging Icebreaking Session by Mr. Vivek P. K. helped students interact and build rapport. A Bridging Session led by Ms. Shana Parveen T. T. guided students in transitioning to the new curriculum. Students also participated in a Library Visit, coordinated by Mr. Vivek P. K., familiarizing them with academic resources. A creative Literary Activity by Ms. Shameema M. encouraged self-expression. The program concluded with an Invited Lecture by Ms. Sulthana Afroza P. P., providing interdisciplinary insights and inspiration for academic excellence.

The Postgraduate Department of Microbiology, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Puzhakkattiri, celebrated World Environment Day 2025 by organizing a Short Video Challenge titled “One Minute for Earth”. The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainable living through creative digital expression. Students were invited to create one-minute videos highlighting themes such as pollution control, waste management, biodiversity conservation, and climate action.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from both postgraduate and undergraduate students, who showcased their creativity and concern for nature through thought-provoking videos. The entries reflected innovative ideas on protecting the planet and encouraged eco-friendly practices among viewers. The best videos were selected based on creativity, message clarity, and visual impact, and the winners were appreciated for their efforts in spreading environmental awareness.
The event successfully inspired students to become responsible citizens and environmental ambassadors. By integrating science and creativity, the “One Minute for Earth” challenge emphasized that even a single minute can make a difference in protecting our planet. The celebration concluded with a message to continue small but meaningful actions toward a greener and sustainable future.

The Training and Placement Cell in association with the PG Department of Social Work, organized an insightful session under the Leader Lounge, Industry Talk – Expert Series 2k25 on “Forging Your Path in the Social Development Sector” on 24th October 2025 at MP Narayana Menon Hall at 2.00PM.The session was led by Mr. Nadeer KT, Social Work Educator and Head, Learning & Development, Thanal – Day Rehabilitation Trust. The program aimed to provide students with a deeper understanding of career opportunities, challenges, and pathways within the social development and rehabilitation sectors. The event began with a welcome address by Ms. Haritha Viswanath, Training and Placement officer, followed by a brief introduction of the resource person by the students. Mr. Nadeer shared his rich experiences in the field of social work, emphasizing the importance of empathy, professional ethics, and continuous learning in creating a positive social impact. He also discussed various roles and skills required for social development professionals and encouraged students to actively engage in community-based initiatives. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where students expressed their enthusiasm and clarified their queries about career prospects in social work. The vote of thanks expressing gratitude to the speaker for his valuable insights and to all participants for making the session successful.

As part of the academic requirements for the paper Social Anthropology, the Department of Sociology organized a tribal visit on October 4. The purpose of the visit was to gain firsthand knowledge and understanding of the socio-cultural life, traditions, and governance systems of tribal communities in Kerala. The students of the B.A. Sociology fifth semester participated in this educational field trip.
The Mannan tribe is one of the prominent tribal communities in Kerala, primarily inhabiting the Idukki district. They are known for preserving their traditional customs, matrilineal inheritance system, and a unique governance structure led by a tribal king. The Mannans traditionally depend on agriculture, forest produce, and allied activities for their livelihood.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the IPR Cell, organized an informative session on Intellectual Property Rights in the Digital Era on 23rd October 2025. The event was held in the BCA classroom from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and witnessed the enthusiastic participation of around 26 students from the department.
The session aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in the modern digital landscape. The resource person for the session was Dr. Deepthi V. C., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Biotechnology, who elaborated on various aspects of IPR, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, and digital content protection. Special emphasis was placed on the challenges and opportunities that arise in safeguarding digital creations such as software, multimedia, and online publications.
Students were introduced to the significance of respecting intellectual property and understanding the legal frameworks that protect creators in cyberspace. Dr. Deepthi also discussed real-life cases of digital piracy, plagiarism, and patent violations, highlighting how technological advancements have transformed the concept of ownership and creativity.
The interactive nature of the session encouraged students to ask questions and share their views on topics such as open-source software, digital innovation, and ethical content use. The event successfully deepened their understanding of how intellectual property laws apply to digital works and emphasized the need for responsible and lawful use of online resources.
The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Bijili mubeen of S1 BCA, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Deepthi V. C., the faculty members, and the organizing team for conducting such an insightful and thought-provoking program. Overall, the event proved to be highly informative, inspiring students to value and protect intellectual property in their academic and professional pursuits.

The PG Department of Social Work organized a program in connection with World Mental Health Day on October 14, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 4:15 PM. The event aimed to create awareness among students about the importance of mental health and emotional well-being. Awareness sessions were held in each class focusing on mental health, stress management, and the importance of seeking help. A Google Form survey was conducted to assess students’ mental health status, and an exhibition displayed charts, posters, and slogans on mental health awareness. Interactive games, activities, and a video creation added creativity and engagement. Around 35 MSW first- and second-year students participated. Overall, the program was informative, engaging, and effective in promoting mental health awareness and reducing stigma.

In observance of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on 17/10/2025 , the PG Department of Social Work organized a debate on the topic “Do Government Welfare schemes create dependency rather than Empowerment. The program was held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., featuring engaging discussions on various aspects of the topic. Coordinator Fatima Anfal gave the introduction and instructions for the debate, setting the tone for an insightful session. The event concluded with remarks by Coordinator Pavithra, who summarized the key points and appreciated the participants for their thoughtful contributions. The debate provided a meaningful platform for students to critically examine the impact of government welfare programs on empowerment and dependency.

GEMS Arts & Science College (Autonomous) is proud to announce the "International Experts Lecture Series GEMS-2025." This prestigious event is organized jointly with the Society of Biological Chemists (India) North East Chapter.The series will run from November to December 2025 and will feature leading academics and researchers from across the globe, including India, Malaysia, the USA, Egypt, and Nigeria.The lectures will be conducted in a Hybrid mode, allowing for both in-person and virtual attendance. The in-person sessions will be held in the Auditorium, Library building, GEMS Arts & Science college.This series is an invaluable opportunity for students and faculty to engage with international experts on a diverse range of cutting-edge topics.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management at GEMS Arts and Science College hosted an insightful expert talk titled "Inquest: a journey in to the logic of research" on October 22, 2025. The event, held in the MPN Hall, was designed to equip students with a foundational understanding of research methodologies in the field of tourism.

We were privileged to have Muhammed Abdul Shameem TV as our distinguished speaker. As the Head of the Department of Tourism at CPA College of Global Studies, Puthanathani, Mr. Shameem shared his valuable expertise, guiding students through the logical frameworks and critical thinking required for effective research.

The session was a great success, providing students with practical knowledge and inspiring them to pursue their academic inquiries with rigor.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management successfully conducted "Bhavishya 2025" on October 21, 2025. This installment of the "Peer Teaching- Peer Plus" series featured an insightful session on "Advanced Technologies in the Tourism Industry."

The presentation was expertly led by two students from the S3 BTTM batch, Fathima Nidha T and Ansila P, who shared their research and knowledge on the evolving technological landscape of the tourism sector with their peers.

The event provided a valuable platform for students to engage with current industry trends and highlighted the importance of peer-led learning. The department congratulates the presenters on their excellent session.

The PG Department of Social Work conducted Alumni Lecture Series 9 on October 17, 2025, at Room 902, PG Block, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. The event brought together 34 MSW students from 1st and 2nd year, who gathered to explore the pivotal role of social workers in educational settings. The session was expertly led by the esteemed resource person, Riswana Thasni K, who shared her wealth of knowledge and experiences with the attendees.

The program commenced with a warm and engaging welcome address by Fathima Anfal, a 2nd-year MSW student, who set the tone for the event. This was followed by Riswana Thasni K's insightful lecture, which delved into the multifaceted contributions of social workers in educational settings. The resource person eloquently highlighted the various roles social workers play, the challenges they face, and the best practices they employ to make a positive impact.

The lecture was interactive, with attendees actively participating in the Q&A session, posing thoughtful questions, and sharing their perspectives. The session concluded with a sincere vote of thanks by Pavithra K, a 1st-year MSW student, who expressed her gratitude to the resource person and organizers for providing such a valuable learning experience.
