The Department of Computer Applications organized an engaging Quiz Competition in connection with World Population Day on 14th July 2025 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm to create awareness about global population issues and sustainable development. The event aimed to encourage students to enhance their general knowledge and understanding of population dynamics, demographic challenges, and their impact on society and the environment.The competition was conducted in a lively and competitive spirit, with enthusiastic participation from students across various classes. The quiz covered a wide range of topics including population growth trends, family planning, resource management, and international initiatives related to population control and sustainability.After several challenging rounds, the team of Shahid Afreedi and Mohammed Mishal Palepadiyan emerged as the First Prize winners, showcasing excellent teamwork and awareness. The Second Prize was secured by the team of Muhammed Farsal and Gokul, who also displayed commendable performance and enthusiasm.The event successfully met its objective of promoting awareness and curiosity about population-related issues among students while fostering teamwork, quick thinking, and a spirit of healthy competition. Overall, the quiz competition was a great success and received positive feedback from both participants and faculty members.

The Reading Empowerment Committee, in association with the Vaikhari Literacy Club and the Department of Language, organized a four-day literary event titled “Vayanavaraghosham 2025” from 17th June to 20th June 2025. The programme aimed to foster reading habits, promote literary awareness, and encourage students to engage actively with books and creative expression.
The inaugural ceremony was held on 17th June 2025 at MP Narayanamenon Hall at 10.00 a.m. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ashok Dicruzz, Assistant Professor, Malayalam University. In his keynote address, he spoke on “Vayanayude Vathilukalum Ezhuthinte Ezhuthappurangalum”. He highlighted the importance of reading as a foundation for creativity and critical thinking and encouraged students to embrace the joy of reading as a lifelong practice. His inspiring words set a meaningful tone for the celebration.
On the second day, 18th June 2025, a Book Review Competition was held at the Library and Research Center at 3.00 p.m. Students participated enthusiastically, presenting insightful reviews of books they had read. The competition aimed to nurture critical appreciation and interpretative skills, providing students a platform to express their thoughts and literary understanding.
The third day, 19th June 2025, featured a Library Visit to the GEMS Library for students from Government UP School, Panangangara, and Al Ameen School, Mangada. The visit helped young learners understand the significance of libraries and reading culture. Smt. Smitha Pramod, Librarian, shared her valuable experiences and inspired students to make reading a part of their daily life.
The event concluded on 20th June 2025 with the Book Launch of “Poove Engane Chuvvannithre”, written by Mr. Jeevesh M. The book was introduced to the audience by Ms. Seethal P, Assistant Professor, Department of Language. It was published by Sri P. K. Parakkadavu, Kerala Sahithya Academy Award winner, and the first copy was received by Dr. Naveen Mohan, Principal, during the function held at MP Narayanamenon Hall at 10.00 a.m.
The four-day Vayanavaraghosham 2025 successfully celebrated the essence of reading and literature, leaving a lasting impact on the campus community.

A Nutrition Awareness Programme was organized on 26th August 2025 at MP Narayanamenon Hall. The session began at 10:30 AM with the inauguration by our respected Principal, Dr. Naveen Mohan. In his inaugural address, he emphasized the importance of maintaining a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle among students.The resource person for the session was Ms. Ligi Mathew, who delivered an informative and interactive talk on the importance of proper nutrition, healthy eating habits, and the role of diet in preventing lifestyle diseases. She also highlighted the significance of including local and seasonal foods in daily meals.The programme was well attended by students and faculty members. It helped create awareness about the importance of nutrition and motivated participants to adopt healthy dietary practices. The session concluded with a vote of thanks.
Overall, the event was educational and highly beneficial to all participants.

The Department of Physical Education organized an Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on 24th June 2025 at M.P. Narayanamenon Hall. The programme aimed to educate students about the harmful effects of drug use and to promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle among the youth.
The session was inaugurated by the Principal Dr. Naveen Mohan, who stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and self-control in life. The resource person, Mr. Sunil Kumar from the Excise Range Office, led an informative and interactive session, highlighting the physical, mental, and social impacts of drug abuse. He also explained the legal consequences and shared real-life experiences to create awareness among students.
The programme received an active response from the participants, who took a pledge to stay away from drugs and encourage others to do the same. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by a student representative.
Overall, the programme was highly informative and effective in spreading the message of a drug- free campus and society.

Students of the Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapura, Malappuram actively participated in a baseline survey conducted under the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) program of the Election Commission of India, organized by the Centre for Management Development (CMD), Thiruvananthapuram. An orientation session for the participants was held on 23rd September 2025 at St. Joseph’s College (Autonomous), Devagiri, where they received instructions and guidelines regarding the survey procedures. The students - Shahana Sherin, Mushfira, and Jubairiya, began data collection on 28th September 2025 and successfully completed it on 11th October 2025. The survey was carried out in various regions of Malappuram District, including Nilambur Municipality, Malappuram Municipality, Kuttilangadi Panchayath, Kondotty Municipality, Cherukavu Panchayath, Kodur Panchayath, Tirur Municipality, Thirunnavaya Panchayath, and Mankada Panchayath. A total of 239 surveys were completed, exceeding the assigned target of 228. Individually, Shahana Sherin collected 83 responses, Jubairiya collected 80, and Mushfira collected 76. Through this field engagement, the students gained valuable experience in community-based data collection, enhanced their research and communication skills, and contributed to a national effort aimed at promoting voter awareness, electoral literacy, and democratic participation.

The session aimed to provide students with insights into the latest trends, emerging technologies, and diverse career prospects in the field of Information Technology. The resource person from Infocampus Calicut shared valuable information about the evolving IT landscape, necessary technical skills, and the importance of continuous learning to stay relevant in the industry.
Students actively participated in the session, raising questions and clarifying their doubts regarding career paths, skill development, and industry expectations. The event served as a motivation for aspiring IT professionals to explore various domains such as software development, data analytics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Overall, the session was highly beneficial and helped students gain a clearer understanding of career opportunities in the IT sector.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with Infocampus Calicut, conducted an insightful session on the topic “Network Essentials: Foundation of Digital Connectivity” on 13th August 2025 from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. The session was held at the BCA classroom and was attended by students and faculty members of the department.
The objective of the session was to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental concepts of computer networks, their architecture, and the crucial role they play in the digital world. The expert resource person from Infocampus Calicut explained the basic components of networking, including network topologies, IP addressing, routers, switches, and various types of network configurations used in real-world applications.
The session also highlighted the importance of networking in today’s technology-driven environment, emphasizing its relevance in areas such as cloud computing, cybersecurity, and data communication. The resource person further discussed career opportunities in the networking field, guiding students on how to pursue certifications like CCNA, CompTIA Network+, and Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) to enhance their employability.
Students enthusiastically participated in the session, engaging in interactive discussions and clarifying their doubts regarding network setup, troubleshooting, and future trends in digital connectivity. The session provided valuable insights into how strong networking knowledge forms the foundation for advanced IT infrastructure and digital transformation.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the Department of Physical Education, organized an Awareness and Demonstration Session on 20th June 2025 in connection with International Yoga Day.
The session aimed to promote the importance of physical and mental well-being through the practice of yoga among students and faculty members. Ms. Sneha S, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education, led the session with great enthusiasm and expertise.
During the session, Ms. Sneha highlighted the significance of incorporating yoga into daily life to improve flexibility, concentration, and overall health. She also demonstrated a series of simple yet effective yoga asanas and breathing techniques that can be practiced by individuals of all age groups.
Participants actively took part in the demonstration, showing great interest and enthusiasm. The session was highly interactive and beneficial, leaving a positive impact on all attendees.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a creative competition titled “COVER STORY” on behalf of the FYUGP Skill Enhancement Course. The event was conducted on 21st March 2025 at 10:00 AM in the BCA Lab.
The primary objective of the competition was to encourage students to apply their creativity and technical knowledge in designing an attractive cover page using Microsoft Word. The program aimed to improve students’ practical skills, aesthetic sense, and familiarity with various formatting tools and design features available in Word.
A total of six students participated in the competition, forming three groups, each consisting of 2 members. The participants displayed outstanding teamwork and creativity while following the competition guidelines, which restricted the use of third-party design tools or templates. However, students were permitted to download necessary images to enrich their cover designs.
Throughout the event, students skillfully utilized Word features such as text effects, color gradients, image formatting, shapes, and layout settings to produce professional-quality cover pages. The competition provided an excellent opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, fostering both technical competence and innovative thinking.
In addition to improving their design skills, the competition helped students develop vital soft skills such as collaboration, problem-solving, communication, and time management. Faculty members from the Department of Computer Applications coordinated and evaluated the entries based on creativity, originality, visual appeal, and proper use of Word tools.
After an impressive display of designs, Fathima Saja and Hiba Fathima were declared the winners of the competition for their exceptional creativity and well-balanced cover design. The program was coordinated and carried out by Ms. Raneesha K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of BCA, who ensured the smooth and successful conduct of the event.
The “COVER STORY” competition proved to be a fruitful and enjoyable experience, effectively enhancing the students’ digital design skills, creativity, and confidence in using Microsoft Word as a powerful tool for document design.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized the second session of the Alumni Lecture Series on 22nd October 2025. The session was conducted via Google Meet from 7.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., with a total of 54 participants including students and faculty members.
The resource person for the session was Mr. Harshid K. C., an alumnus of the BCA 2021–2024 batch, who is currently pursuing his MBA at the University of Calicut. He delivered a talk on the topic “Crafting ATS-Friendly Resumes and a Guide to MCA Entrance Exams.”
The session commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan P. K., Head of the Department of BCA, who introduced the speaker and appreciated his willingness to interact with his juniors and share his insights.
In his talk, Mr. Harshid K. C. discussed the importance of designing ATS (Applicant Tracking System)-friendly resumes, explaining how modern recruitment systems filter and rank resumes based on keywords and formatting. He guided students on creating impactful resumes by focusing on structure, clarity, and the use of relevant terms.
He also shared valuable tips and strategies for MCA entrance examination preparation, including recommended study materials, time management techniques, and the importance of consistent practice. Drawing from his own experience, he encouraged students to remain focused and goal-oriented in their academic journey.
The session concluded with an engaging interaction where students clarified their doubts related to career building and higher studies. A vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Asna K. S., Assistant Professor, Department of BCA, who expressed gratitude to the speaker and participants for making the event a success.
Overall, the second lecture of the Alumni Lecture Series proved to be an informative and motivating session, providing students with practical insights into resume building and postgraduate opportunities in computer applications.

The Charity Club of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), in association with the National Service Scheme (NSS) and Vibhinna Vaibhava Vikasana Vedi, Malappuram, organized a Fund-Raising Music Event titled “Together in Tune” on 12th September 2025 at the College Corridor (Near English Department). The event aimed to mobilize financial support for a charitable cause while promoting community spirit and student participation in social initiatives.
The fund collection drive began at 2.00 PM, prior to the main event. Members of the Charity Club and NSS volunteers enthusiastically reached out to students, staff, and visitors, inviting contributions and spreading awareness about the purpose of the fundraiser. Simultaneously, the members welcomed everyone to join the “Together in Tune” musical evening, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere across the campus.
The music event officially commenced at 3.30 PM with a warm Welcome Address by Mr. Aravind K. R., Faculty Coordinator of the Charity Club. He extended heartfelt greetings to the dignitaries, faculty members, and students while highlighting the club’s commitment to community development and charitable outreach.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Dr. Abdu Samad, Vice Principal, who appreciated the joint efforts of the Charity Club, NSS, and partner organizations in fostering a culture of empathy, compassion, and social engagement among students.
Following the inaugural session, the stage came alive with a vibrant musical performance by the V4 Music Band, Thrissur. The band captivated the audience with a soulful and energetic repertoire that resonated with the event’s theme — “Together in Tune.” The performance not only entertained but also inspired attendees to contribute generously to the cause.
The program concluded by 5.00 PM with overwhelming participation and positive feedback from the audience. The combined efforts of the Charity Club, NSS volunteers, and the partner organization ensured the successful completion of both the fund-raising and cultural segments of the event.

The Charity Club of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized a heartfelt Charity Fundraising Programme on 14th October 2025, aiming to extend immediate financial assistance to Mr. Suneesh, a young man in urgent need of a kidney transplantation that costs approximately ₹40,00,000. The programme reflected the club’s ongoing commitment to promoting empathy, social responsibility, and collective action for humanitarian causes.
The afternoon began with the gathering of Charity Club members at the college campus. The session was led by Mr. Aravind K.R., Faculty Coordinator of the Charity Club, who guided the students on how to carry out the fundraising activity effectively and ethically. He emphasized the importance of compassion, teamwork, and the moral duty of helping those in distress. His briefing inspired the students and set the tone for the day’s activity, instilling in everyone a strong sense of purpose and solidarity.
Following the guidance, the club members were divided into groups, each assigned to different areas of the college to ensure that the fund collection covered the entire campus. The teams approached students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff, explaining the medical condition of Mr. Suneesh and the urgency of financial support required for his kidney transplant. The sincerity and commitment of the students encouraged many to contribute wholeheartedly to the cause.
As the fundraising progressed, the atmosphere across the college became filled with warmth and compassion. Teachers, students, and staff alike came forward to make their contributions, reaffirming the spirit of community within the institution. Through this united effort, the Charity Club successfully collected a total amount of ₹20,000 from the college community.
The funds were earmarked as immediate financial assistance for Mr. Suneesh’s medical treatment. Though the amount represented only a fraction of the total expense, the initiative symbolized a collective act of humanity — a gesture of care that carried immense emotional and moral value. The contributions gathered from the campus were later added to the broader public fundraising effort for his surgery.
By the end of the day, the Charity Fundraising Programme stood as a shining example of compassion in action. It not only fulfilled its objective of supporting a life in need but also fostered a sense of unity and empathy among the students. The programme reflected how the power of small individual contributions, when combined, can make a profound difference in society.
