The PG Department of Applied Geology, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), successfully organized a webinar on “The Role of Geologist: A General Overview with a Special Focus on the Geological Survey of India” on the occasion of World Geologist Day, observed on April 6, 2025.
The session was led by Sri. Sahel M. P., Senior Geologist at the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Bangalore, who delivered an insightful lecture highlighting the multifaceted roles geologists play in understanding Earth’s systems and contributing to sustainable national development.
Sri. Sahel provided a comprehensive overview of the profession, emphasizing the significant contributions of geologists in mineral exploration, groundwater studies, natural disaster prediction (including earthquakes, landslides, and floods), environmental impact assessment, and sustainable resource management. He elaborated on how modern geologists employ tools such as geological mapping, remote sensing, GIS, seismic surveys, and laboratory analyses to investigate the Earth’s structure, history, and resources.
A special focus of the session was on the Geological Survey of India, where the speaker outlined the organization’s major functions in mineral inventory preparation, resource evaluation, geotechnical investigations, and applied geological research. He also discussed GSI’s vital role in infrastructure development projects such as tunnels, roadways, dams, and slope stability studies.
Encouraging the participants, Sri. Sahel highlighted the career opportunities available for geology graduates in government organizations like GSI, ONGC, CGWB, as well as in private industries and academic research. He urged aspiring geologists to strengthen both field-based and analytical skills, and to remain updated with evolving geoscientific tools and data interpretation techniques.
The session witnessed active participation from students and faculty members, who engaged in a lively interactive Q&A segment discussing field methodologies, professional pathways, and the dynamic scope of geological sciences.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Selshia Joseph, Assistant Professor, Department of Geology, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person for his valuable insights and to all participants for their enthusiastic involvement.

The session was led by Dr. Raicy M. C., Scientist–B at the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, as part of the department’s initiative to promote gender equity and inclusivity in Earth sciences.

Dr. Raicy delivered an inspiring talk highlighting the role, challenges, and achievements of women in geoscience. She emphasized the importance of women’s participation in scientific research, fieldwork, and leadership positions, noting that gender diversity enhances innovation, collaboration, and problem-solving in geoscientific studies. Drawing from her own experiences in hydrogeological research, she shared valuable insights on overcoming barriers, balancing field challenges, and fostering resilience in scientific careers.
The session also shed light on the historical and contemporary contributions of women geoscientists globally and in India, encouraging young female students to pursue careers in geology, environmental science, and related fields. Dr. Raicy discussed various government initiatives, research opportunities, and scholarship programs that support women in STEM disciplines.
The webinar witnessed enthusiastic participation of 30 attendees from students and faculty members who actively engaged in the interactive Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions about gender representation, mentorship, and work-life balance in the geoscience profession.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Anju lekshmi., I M.Sc. Geology Student, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person for her inspiring address and to all participants for their active involvement.

The Department of Management Studies, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized an extension programme titled “DIGITAL DISHA – Empowering Community Through Digital Literacy” on 26th August 2025, from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM at the M.P. Narayana Menon Hall. The programme aimed to promote digital awareness and strengthen the technological skills of community members from Ramapuram and Mankada Panchayats.
The session was coordinated by Ms. Thasni M., Assistant Professor, and handled by BBA students—Mr. Amal Abdul Jaleel, Mr. Muhammed Shaaz, Ms. Fathima Hiba K.P, and Ms. Niya C—who actively engaged participants through practical demonstrations and discussions. A felicitation ceremony was also held, where Dr. Abdussamad, Vice Principal, and Mr. Abdul Latheef Aslem, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, addressed the gathering and appreciated the efforts of the organizers and participants.
The major objectives included enhancing basic digital skills, promoting safe internet usage, expanding access to digital opportunities, and fostering lifelong learning. A total of 86 participants attended and expressed high levels of satisfaction, finding the session informative, interactive, and beneficial.
Overall, the programme effectively empowered participants with essential digital knowledge and practices. It stood as a successful community outreach initiative, reflecting the Department’s dedication to social responsibility, digital inclusion, and community development through education.

On 23rd June 2025, the Department of Management Studies conducted a career-oriented guidance program titled “Guidance for Competitive Examination Career Council”. The event took place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the M.P. Narayan Menon Hall, with a total of 69 enthusiastic participants comprising students from various semesters.The session was facilitated by Mr. Arun V.P., a renowned Career Educator, who brought in his vast experience and insights to guide students in planning their future after graduation. He began the session by emphasizing the importance of early career planning and the role competitive examinations play in shaping a student’s professional journey.Throughout the session, Mr. Arun provided a comprehensive overview of the different career pathways available after completing a degree course, including opportunities in government, public sector undertakings, and other professional fields. He shed light on various competitive examinations, such as civil services, bank exams, SSC, and management entrance tests, explaining their scope, relevance, and selection processes.

The Mentor Mentee of GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, organized by Mentor-Mentee Meet and Greet session titled "Nexus" on 23 September 2025 from 3:30PM to 4:15 PM at the respective departments Coordinated by Dr. Abdu Samed(Vice Principat Coordinator of Mentor-Mentee). The session was designed to strengthen the bond between mentors and mentees, fostering open communication and mutual understanding. Faculty mentors and their respective mentees actively participated in the program.During the interaction, mentors and mentees discussed important aspects concerning the students. The primary focus of the discussions included:Reviewing and updating internal marks of the students.Collecting and verifying family details to maintain updated student records.Providing necessary guidance to students based on their academic performance and personal background.The session proved to be fruitful, as it not only helped in addressing academic concerns but also created a comfortable space for students to share their personal details and seek guidance from their mentors. Overall, the program was successful in meeting its objectives, and both mentors and mentees expressed that such sessions play a vital role in academic and personal development.

The Training and Placement Cell, in association with the Department of Management Studies, organized an educational visit to the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode for the S3 BBA students on October 28, 2025. The primary objective of this visit was to provide students with an opportunity to explore and experience the Business Expo organized by IIM Kozhikode and to gain practical insights into the world of management, innovation, and entrepreneurship.A total of 47 students, accompanied by two faculty members, participated in this academic visit. The event offered the students a unique platform to interact with budding entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and management scholars. During the visit, students had an opportunity to explore the IIM Kozhikode Business Museum, which highlights India’s rich business history and the evolution of management education in the country. The exposure helped the students connect classroom concepts with practical applications, enhancing their understanding of business operations and leadership principles.The visit proved to be an enriching experience, providing students with valuable learning beyond textbooks and lectures. It also strengthened their aspiration to pursue higher studies in reputed management institutions.Overall, the visit to IIM Kozhikode was highly informative and inspirational, aligning perfectly with the objectives of the Training and Placement Cell to promote experiential learning and career-oriented exposure for students.

The Department of Computer Applications organized TEXTARATA 2K25 – Association Day on 04/02/2025 with the objective of fostering creativity, technical skills, and team spirit among students. The event provided a vibrant platform for students to showcase their talents in various academic and co-curricular activities.The formal inauguration of the program was held at 9:30 AM.The event was inaugurated by Mr. Mohammed Ambras K T, CEO, Edex Life School, who delivered an inspiring inaugural address emphasizing the importance of digital connectivity and skill development in today’s technological era.The session began with a Welcome Address by Mohammed Asgar Ali, followed by the Presidential Address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan PK(HOD,Dept of BCA) .Felicitations were delivered by faculty members, and the session concluded with a Vote of Thanks proposed by Ayisha MP.Students presented papers on emerging topics in computer science, highlighting their innovative ideas and research aptitude. A team-based technical and general awareness quiz was conducted to test the participants’ knowledge and quick thinking. Winners were felicitated with certificates and prizes by the Head of the Department.

The Department of Computer Applications, in association with the IQAC, conducted an orientation training program titled Shaping the Future with AI”on 11th December 2024. The event was held from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM at the BCA Lab, with a total of 39 students participating.The primary objective of the training was to introduce students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its practical applications in various domains. The session was led by Mr. Fahad Salam, Senior Software Engineer cum Technology Lead, who provided valuable insights into the evolving landscape of AI and its impact on industries.
During the session, Mr. Fahad Salam explained the fundamentals of AI, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing. He emphasized the growing demand for AI professionals and how students can build a career in this field. He also demonstrated real-world applications of AI in healthcare, finance, automation, and cybersecurity, highlighting the transformative power of AI in shaping the future.The interactive nature of the session kept the students engaged. Several hands-on demonstrations were conducted, allowing students to explore AI-driven tools and technologies. Mr. Fahad also shared insights into AI ethics, challenges, and future advancements, encouraging students to actively participate in AI research and development.The program concluded with a Q&A session, where students clarified their doubts and discussed career prospects in AI. The session was well-received, and participants expressed their enthusiasm for further learning opportunities in AI.Overall, the orientation training successfully enhanced students’ understanding of AI and its real-world applications, motivating them to explore AI-driven innovations. The Department of Computer Applications, along with IQAC, expressed gratitude to Mr. Fahad Salam for his insightful presentation and to the students for their active participation.
