The Department of Multimedia, in association with  the Film Club – GEMS Arts & Science College (Autonomous), organized an Inter-Collegiate Single-Shot Reel Making Competition titled “Lumière Reel Quest” in commemoration of the world’s first commercial film screening by the Lumière Brothers at the Grand Café, Paris, on 28 December 1895.

The competition aimed to encourage creativity, visual storytelling, and technical proficiency among students through the unique challenge of single-shot filmmaking. Participants were required to conceptualize and execute a reel using a continuous, unedited shot, promoting spontaneity, planning, and cinematic thinking.

A total of 12 entries were received, showcasing innovative narratives and creative camera techniques. The event provided a platform for young filmmakers to explore the fundamentals of cinema while adapting them to contemporary digital formats.

Faculty members served as judges, evaluating the entries based on creativity, composition, storytelling, and adherence to the single-shot format and Al Shab Kottarath, BA multimedia (2023-3026), GEMS Arts and Science College, secured the first place. The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation and active engagement from students and faculty members.

The Department of Multimedia, in association with Westberg International, organized a Seminar on Research Methodology titled “Research Methods in Graphic Design” on 16th December 2025 at the Multimedia Workstation. The seminar was conducted with the objective of introducing multimedia students to structured research practices and academic methodologies relevant to graphic design and allied creative disciplines.

The session was led by Ms. Athira, Multimedia Faculty, Westberg International, who served as the resource person. She provided a comprehensive overview of research methodology in the context of graphic design. Emphasis was placed on the importance of research in strengthening creative outcomes and academic writing.

The seminar was interactive in nature, with 32 students of the Department of Multimedia actively participating through discussions and queries. Overall, the program successfully enhanced students’ understanding of research-oriented thinking and its relevance in graphic design practice and higher studies.

Day 1: Teacher Orientation (December 3, 2025)

• Venue: MP Narayana Menon Hall

• Time: 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM

• Focus: Standardizing teaching methodologies.

• Key Content:

  • Comprehensive insights into Cambridge English assessment standards and effective pedagogical approaches.

  • Practical instruction on techniques for seamlessly integrating and developing language skills.

  • Clear strategies for preparing students to successfully tackle Cambridge examinations, thereby aligning departmental standards with global proficiency benchmarks.

Day 2: Student Orientation (December 4, 2025)

• Venue: Moyinkutty Vaidyar Auditorium

• Time: 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM

• Structure: The day was strategically structured into three separate sessions to manage the large audience and diverse needs.

• Focus Areas: The sessions concentrated on crucial areas for student development:

  • Skill-building in English proficiency.

  • Exploring the career opportunities significantly enhanced by Cambridge certification.

  • Providing practical tips for continuous improvement in the English language.

In connection with Human Rights Day, the Anti Human Trafficking Club, in association with the PG Department of Social Work and the Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers (KAPS), Malappuram Chapter, organized an Expert Talk on Human Rights on 10th December 2025 at 9:30 AM in MP Narayana Menon Hall, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram. The programme was conducted on the theme “Redefining Human Rights in a Changing Society.” A total of 57 students participated in the session.
The expert session was led by Dr. Anshad Kulathur, Consultant, ICMR Research, SHSRC-K, and Vice President, KAPS Malappuram Chapter, who delivered an informative and thought-provoking talk on the evolving concept of human. Rights He discussed contemporary human rights concerns and the increasing responsibility of social workers and young professionals in safeguarding human dignity and justice.
The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Anitha Parveen J, Coordinator of the Anti-Human Trafficking Club and Head, PG Department of Social Work, who highlighted the importance of observing Human Rights Day and the relevance of the topic in the present social scenario. Ms. Priya Varrier, Psycho Social Counsellor, GHSS, Kunnakkavu, and Treasurer, KAPS Malappuram Chapter, felicitated the programme. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sarath K, Department Programme Faculty Coordinator and Assistant Professor, PG Department of Social Work.
The programme contributed significantly to increasing students’ awareness of basic human rights, enhancing their understanding of current human rights issues, and motivating them to actively engage in human rights protection and advocacy, thereby reinforcing the values of social justice and professional responsibility among future social work practitioners. Overall, the programme successfully met the expected outcomes.

GEMS Publication Committee of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), along with IQAC, conducted an online awareness session on Drillbit Plagiarism Checking Software on 18th November 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM through Microsoft Teams to promote awareness on preventing plagiarism and encouraging honest research among teachers and students. Mr. Aneesh D., Assistant Librarian, welcomed all, followed by the inaugural address from Dr. B.G. Unni, Academic and Research Director, who stressed the importance of academic integrity. Ms. Sulthana Afrosa P.P., Head of the English Department, introduced the resource person, Mr. Akash S., Assistant Manager from Drillbit, who demonstrated the software, its features, and how to check documents and read similarity reports. The session ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan P.K., Head of the Computer Applications Department. The session was very useful, helping participants understand plagiarism rules and learn how to detect plagiarism using the Drillbit software.

The Department of Applied Geology organised GEOQUEST 2025, a departmental quiz competition conducted as part of the celebration of GIS Day on 19 November 2025. The event was held in the GIS Laboratory and was coordinated by Ms. Hitha Manohar. The competition aimed to enhance participatory learning, encourage geospatial awareness, and promote healthy academic engagement among students. Participants included students from the Second Year M.Sc. Geology programme and the Final Year B.Sc. Geology programme. The quiz focused on diverse themes related to GIS, remote sensing, cartography, Earth observation, and applied geology. The interactive nature of the event provided students with an opportunity to apply theoretical understanding to real-world geospatial problems, thereby strengthening their conceptual clarity and analytical skills. The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation, active discussion, and teamwork among the students, making it both competitive and academically enriching. GEOQUEST 2025 successfully contributed
to cultivating interest in geospatial sciences and reinforced the importance of GIS in modern geological studies. The event concluded with appreciation for the participants and acknowledgment of the coordinator for organising a productive and well- structured academic activity

The Training and Placement cell in association with Microtec Events, organized the Future Forge 25–26 Mega Placement Drive on 15 December 2025 at 10am to 3.30pm. The program was designed to provide a strong employment platform for final-year students, alumni, and eligible local community members, while strengthening industry–institution collaboration. More than 15 reputed companies participated, offering placement opportunities to final-year students, alumni, and eligible local community members. The drive included registrations, one-on-one interviews, and HR interactions.
