PG Department of Social Work Hosts Expert Session on Medical Social Work

The PG Department of Social Work at GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) is proud to announce the 11th session of its prestigious Alumni Lecture Series.

This upcoming session features Ms. Kasthoorba K, an esteemed alumna currently serving as Project Technical Support III at Amrita Hospital, Kochi. She will be sharing her professional insights on the critical functions and evolving responsibilities of social workers within medical frameworks.

About the Session

This lecture aims to bridge the gap between academic theory and clinical practice. Students will gain first-hand knowledge of how medical projects are implemented and the specific interventions social workers provide in a multi-disciplinary healthcare setting.

The PG Department of English conducted a "Project/Dissertation Workshop" on 8th December 2025 at MP Narayana Menon Hall with the objective of guiding 3rd year graduate and postgraduate students in the essential components of academic research. The session was led by Ms. Shibila A, Research scholar, JRF at PG and Research department of English Govt. Victoria college, Palakkad and also assistant professor of Gems Arts and Science college Ramapuram. The resource person, whose expertise greatly contributed to the effectiveness of the workshop.
The programme began with an introduction to the fundamentals of research, including topic selection, framing research questions, and understanding research ethics. Ms. Shibila A elaborated on the structure of a dissertation, covering key chapters such as introduction, literature review, methodology, analysis, and conclusion. She also provided practical tips on citation styles, academic writing techniques, and the use of reliable sources.
The workshop offered valuable insights into common challenges faced by students during research and provided clear strategies to overcome them. Participants appreciated the interactive nature of the session, which allowed them to clarify doubts and gain confidence in preparing their academic projects. Overall, the programme proved to be highly informative and beneficial for all postgraduate students. Total 54 students are participated in the programme.

The PyTech360: Future-Ready Python Boot Camp was conducted for B.Sc. Artificial Intelligence students on 12th December 2025, from 9:30am to 12:30pm, at Geoinformatics lab, with the objective of providing hands-on training in Python programming and enhancing practical coding skills. The program was handled by Mr. Aswin T, Software Engineer at PAAPI Ltd, and Mr. Ilyas Babu, Software Engineer at MDrift Technologies. The sessions focused on Python fundamentals, real-time examples, and interactive coding exercises, enabling students to gain practical exposure to industry-relevant programming practices.
The boot camp was successfully conducted with active student participation and positive feedback. It helped bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical application, improved problem-solving abilities, and increased confidence in Python programming. Overall, the program proved to be highly beneficial in preparing students for future academic and professional challenges.

The Department of Computer Applications of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized a Workshop on Computer Networks on Thursday, 18 December 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The workshop was held in the BCA Lab to help students understand computer networking in a practical way.The programme started with a welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan P.K., Head of the Department of Computer Applications. She spoke about the importance of networking skills in today’s technology field and encouraged students to actively take part in the session.The workshop was handled by Ms. Shibla Shereen, Academic Head of Leads Networking Academy. She explained the basic concepts of computer networks in a clear and simple manner. Topics such as types of networks, networking devices, basic IP concepts, and the importance of networking were discussed. She used real-life examples, which helped students understand the topics easily.
A total of 40 students participated in the workshop with great interest. The session was interactive, and students asked questions and shared their doubts. Along with the theory session, a hands-on session was also conducted. This practical session helped students understand networking concepts better.After the session, a quiz was conducted to test the students’ understanding. Twenty-four students answered all the questions correctly. Since many students performed well, one student was selected among them. Mohammed Nafih K.P. was selected and received a prize from the organizing team.The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Husna Mehbin, S4 BCA Class Representative, who thanked the resource person, Head of the Department, faculty members, and students for their support.Overall, the workshop was very useful and informative. It helped students gain practical knowledge and encouraged them to learn more about computer networking.

The Department of Arabic, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) organized World Arabic Day on 18 December by
conducting an Arabic Calligraphy Workshop from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM in the classroom. The programme aimed to highlight the cultural
and artistic richness of the Arabic language and to familiarize students with the traditional art of Arabic calligraphy.The programme
commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Mohammed Irshad K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, who emphasized
the global importance of Arabic and the relevance of celebrating World Arabic Day. He also highlighted the significance of Arabic
calligraphy as a classical art form that reflects the beauty and depth of the Arabic language.The session was handled by Dr. Khalid C. T.,
Associate Professor, Department of Arabic, SNGS College, Pattambi, who served as the resource person. He delivered an
engaging and informative session on the history, evolution, and styles of Arabic calligraphy, including Kufi, Naskh, Thuluth, and
Diwani. The session also focused on the aesthetic principles and techniques involved in calligraphy.
A hands-on practice session followed, during which students actively participated by practicing basic calligraphic strokes and letter
formations. Dr. Khalid demonstrated correct pen handling, spacing,and stylistic elements, which helped students understand the practical
aspects of Arabic calligraphy.The workshop received enthusiastic participation from students, who showed great interest and
creativity throughout the session. The interactive nature of the programme enriched their appreciation of Arabic art and culture.The
programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammed Irshad K.K., Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic, who
expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource person, the college management, faculty members, and students for their valuable support
and cooperation in making the programme a success
