The PG Department of General Biotechnology at GEMS Arts and Science College celebrated its Department Association Day – Bio Utsav 2K26 on 12 January 2026. The event was held at MP Narayana Menon Hall from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.
The chief guest, Dr Ghanim Fajish, a biomedical scientist from the National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), Nancy, France, delivered an inspiring talk on the topic “The DNA of Purpose: Using Your PhD as a Passport to Global Impact”. His session motivated the students to align their research with meaningful, worldwide contributions.
The program also recognized outstanding achievements of the students:
- Best Student Award was presented to UG and PG whose exemplary performance in academics and extracurricular activities set a benchmark for peers.
- Appreciated Rank Holders* secured the top positions in the biotechnology program and were felicitated for their dedication and excellence.
- *Patent Applicants were honored for filing innovative patents that showcase the department’s research prowess and potential for reasearch

A JOUNEY INTO THE LOGIC OF RESEARCH
The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a research-oriented academic programme titled “Inquest: A Journey into the Logic of Research” on 21 December 2025. The programme was designed to provide students with a clear understanding of the fundamentals of research, its logical framework, and its relevance in academic and professional fields. The session was held at MPN Hall and commenced at 10:00 a.m. The resource person, Mr. Muhammed Abdul Shameem TV, delivered an insightful and engaging talk on the concept of research, emphasizing the importance of logical thinking, problem identification, research design, and methodology. He explained various stages of research in a simple and practical manner, making it easy for students to grasp complex ideas. The speaker also highlighted the relevance of research in tourism studies, particularly in understanding industry trends, consumer behaviour, and sustainable development. Real-life examples and experiences were shared to motivate students to develop research aptitude and critical thinking skills. The programme witnessed active participation from students of the Department of Travel and Tourism Management. An interactive session followed the lecture, during which students raised questions related to project work, data collection methods, and career opportunities in research. The resource person addressed all queries patiently and provided valuable guidance. The programme successfully enhanced students’ understanding of the logic and importance of research. It encouraged students to approach academic projects systematically and analytically. The session also motivated students to pursue research-oriented thinking in their future academic and professional endeavours. The Department expresses its sincere gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and to all participants for making the programme a success.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management organized a Peer Teaching Programme – “Bhavishya 2025: Peer Plus” on 21st October 2025 as part of its academic enrichment activities. The session was conducted from 11:35 AM to 12:30 PM in Room No. 410.
The peer teaching session was handled by Fathima Nidha T and Ansila P, students of 3RD Semester BTTM, on the topic “Advanced Technologies in the Tourism Industry.” The objective of the session was to enhance collaborative learning and to promote student-led knowledge sharing on emerging trends in tourism.
The presenters explained how technological innovations such as Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and Smart Tourism Systems are revolutionizing the global tourism sector. They also discussed real-world examples of technology integration in hospitality, travel booking, and destination marketing.
The session was highly interactive, with active participation from students who shared their insights and raised questions about the impact of technology on sustainable tourism and customer experience. The discussion helped participants understand the importance of adopting new technologies for improving efficiency and competitiveness in the tourism industry.
Overall, the Bhavishya 2025 – Peer Plus session was informative and engaging. It provided a valuable platform for students to develop their presentation skills, subject knowledge, and confidence through peer-to-peer learning.

The department of sociology, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, successfully organized an academic titled " A talk on Rural Realities : A sociological Encounter " on Wednesday 7th January 2026, at MP Narayanamenon Hall. The session was held from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. As part of the curriculum enrichment activities. The program was conducted exclusively for fourth semester BA Sociology students as a supportive academic initiative connected to their major paper " Rural Sociology ". The objective of the program was to provide students with first - hand insights into the lived realities of rural societies in Tamil Nadu beyond textbook knowledge.

The session began with a welcome address by Mr. Abhin PC, Head of the Department of sociology. It was an interactive session. Students gave feedback after the program. Ms. Fshmi, second year student expressed gratitude to the program

The PG Department of Social Work, in collaboration with the PG Department of Commerce, organized a Workshop on Inferential Statistics for Social Work Research for second-year MSW students on 22nd December 2025, from 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The programme was conducted at Room No. 902, PG Block. The resource person for the workshop was Mr. Mohammad Ansar, Research Scholar, Department of Commerce, VISTAS University, Chennai, and Assistant Professor, PG Department of Commerce, Germs Arts and science College (Autonomous). The session was organized with the objective of strengthening students’ understanding of statistical concepts relevant to social work research, particularly in the context of their third semester paper “Quantitative and Qualitative Methods for Research. The workshop began at 9.30 a.m. and was conducted in an interactive manner, encouraging active student participation throughout.
Ms. Anitha Parveen j Head, PG Department of social work formally introduced the resource person, following which Mr. Sarath k Assistant Professor PG Department of social work presented an overview of the session and the program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Shehma, Second year MSW Student. During the session, the resource person explained the basic concepts of statistics, including the meaning and importance of statistics in research. Clear distinctions between descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were discussed. Key measures such as mean, median, and mode were explained with practical examples. The session further focused on the concept of inferential statistics, its purpose, and its application in social work research for drawing conclusions from sample data. The workshop was highly interactive, with students actively engaging through questions and discussions related to their research work. A total of 16 second-year MSW students participated in the programme and benefited from the session. The workshop successfully enhanced students’ conceptual clarity on inferential statistics and its relevance in social work research, thereby contributing positively to their academic and research competencies.

PG Department of Social Work conducted, the Alumni Lecture Series 11successfully via Google Meet on 29th December 2025. The topic, “Role of Social Worker in Medical Projects,” was expertly handled by Kasthoorba K, Project Technical Support at Amrita Hospital, Kochi.

The session started with a welcome speech by Fathima Anfal, Second Year MSW Student. The whole session provided valuable insights into the role of social workers in medical settings, highlighting their contributions to patient care and healthcare teams. The resource person shared practical experiences and examples, engaging students in discussion.

A total of 27 students participated in the session, which concluded with a Q&A, enhancing their understanding of social work in healthcare. The interactive session was a great learning experience for the students, providing them with a deeper understanding of the role of social workers in medical settings. The program outcome was satisfactorily met, with students gaining a better understanding of the topic and its practical applications. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by miss Anjana K T , Second Year MSW Student.

The Department of Multimedia, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a One Day Workshop on “Advanced 3D Animation” on 18/12/2025 at the Multimedia Workstation. The workshop was organized with the objective of enhancing students’ technical knowledge and practical skills in advanced 3D animation techniques aligned with current industry standards.

The session was led by Mr. Ajith M P, Multimedia Analyst, who served as the resource person for the workshop. He delivered an in-depth, hands-on training session covering advanced concepts in 3D animation, including modeling workflows, texturing, lighting, animation principles, and rendering techniques. The resource person also shared industry insights, best practices, and career-oriented guidance relevant to aspiring multimedia professionals.

The workshop was attended by 31 students from 3rd year BA Multimedia (2023-26), who showed keen interest and active participation throughout the program. The interactive nature of the session significantly enhanced their understanding of advanced animation workflows and industry expectations.

The Department of Multimedia, in association with the IPR Cell – GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized a Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) titled “IPR 360 Degree Awareness Program” on 22nd December 2025 at M. P. Narayana Menon Hall,  for creating awareness among students and faculties about the fundamentals of Intellectual Property Rights and their importance in academic, research, and creative fields.

The session was led by Dr. Deepthi V C, Assistant Professor, PG Department of General Biotechnology & Coordinator – IPR Cell, GEMS, who served as the resource person. The session covered various aspects of IPR, including copyrights, trademarks, patents, industrial designs, and geographical indications. Special emphasis was given to copyright protection in creative works such as multimedia content, graphic designs, films, and digital media.

The seminar was interactive, with 70 students from the three batches and faculties from the dept. of Multimedia actively engaging in discussions and seeking clarifications regarding intellectual property protection, ownership, plagiarism, and ethical practices in creative and academic work. The session helped students understand the legal framework governing creative outputs and the need to safeguard original ideas.
