The Training and Placement Cell organized an session on “Orientation & Application Process Submission” in collaboration with the Bhumi Fellowship Firm on October 13, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in the MP Narayana Menon Hall. The session aimed to introduce students to the Bhumi Fellowship Program, which focuses on nurturing future leaders in education and social development. Representatives from Bhumi Fellowship provided an overview of the fellowship’s objectives, structure, eligibility criteria, and the application process.
The event began with a welcome address by the Training and Placement Officer, followed by an introduction to the Bhumi Fellowship team. The speakers shared inspiring stories about their work in transforming education and empowering underprivileged children. They also guided students through the step-by-step application process, clarifying key points about selection stages and expectations from applicants.
The orientation helped students understand how fellowships like Bhumi contribute to community development while offering young graduates an opportunity to gain leadership experience and social impact exposure. The interactive Q&A session enabled students to clarify their doubts and explore how they could contribute to the initiative.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Bhumi Fellowship team and the Training and Placement Cell for providing such a valuable platform for students to explore meaningful career paths in the social sector.
Overall, the session was highly informative and motivational, encouraging students to think beyond conventional career options and engage in socially responsible roles.

The Training and Placement Cell in association with the the Department of Travel and Tourism Management,, organized an industry expert session titled “TALKSPHERE – Industry Talk Expert 2K25” on 14th October 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the MPN Hall.
The resource person for the session was Mr. Muhammed Nishad C.P, Centre Head of Skyford Aviation Academy, Calicut. The session focused on the theme “Tourism Today: Trends, Transitions & Tomorrow”, emphasizing the evolving dynamics of the tourism and aviation sectors.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by a faculty member from the department, followed by the introduction of the guest. Mr. Nishad shared valuable insights on current industry trends, the impact of technology on tourism, and the growing career opportunities in the aviation and travel sectors. He also highlighted the importance of skill development and professional grooming for students aspiring to enter the tourism industry.The interactive session allowed students to engage with the speaker, clarifying their doubts and gaining practical knowledge about real-world applications in tourism management. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, appreciating the speaker for his informative talk and the organizers for their efforts in making the event successful.
Overall, the session was highly informative and motivational, providing students with a better understanding of the present and future scope of the tourism and aviation industries.

The 15th Chairman’s Lecture Series was held at Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre at11am onwards  on 18th October 2025. The programme started with a welcome speech

Raveendran,  Vice Chairman, University of Calicut. delivered the speech on the topic “The changing colors in Higher Education. He began the session by pointing   out the current system followed in primary education, and the

and the kind of stresses given to the students through the ongoing education system. The pre-degree system of education earlier days has focused on experimental aspects when compared to the system adopted in plus two nowadays. He mentioned that the interdisciplinary aspect is more important in choosing courses for higher studies. The need for passion for the students to opt courses to improve their career is very much crucial. The need to integrate skill and knowledge is required to improve the education system, he added. He is worried that passion is missing in the younger generation, bringing out new ideas also lacking to pursue excellence. He motivated the students in such a way that the attitude of each individual made a change and positive thoughts should be maintained.

    The lecture was attended by the faculties of GEMS college , as well as had a wide range of participation from other institutions and academic institutions . The Chairman's lecture series are always very much essential to improve the quality of the academic level, and will also provide an opportunity for the faculties and students to interact with the experts from India and abroad to enrich their knowledge. As part of the Anti-Ragging Week celebrations, a creative and engaging Photo/Selfie Corner was set up on 14th August 2025 at Gems Arts and Science College. This initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of a ragging-free campus through a fun, student-friendly medium.The event was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Naveen Mohan, who addressed the gathering and emphasized the need for continuous efforts to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive college environment. He appreciated the innovative approach taken by the organizing team to spread the message of anti-ragging.
The program was also graced by IQAC Coordinator Dr. Finose, Vice Principal Dr. Abdusamad, faculty members, and the Anti-Ragging Squad. All dignitaries took part in the photo session, encouraging students to join the campaign in solidarity against ragging. The Photo/Selfie Corner was designed with the directions of UGC. Students were invited to take selfies and group photos, which they later shared on social media platforms with designated hashtags to spread awareness beyond the campus. The event saw enthusiastic participation from students across all departments, who appreciated the fresh and interactive approach. It served as a platform to not only express their support for a ragging-free campus but also strengthen bonds with peers in a positive, inclusive environment. The Photo/Selfie Corner initiative successfully combined awareness with creativity, reinforcing the campaign’s core message in a memorable way. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to all participants, staff, and student volunteers for making the campaign a vibrant success.

The Training and Placement Cell, in association with the PG Department of General Biotechnology and the PG Department of Microbiology organized an online session for final-year and postgraduate students on 13th August 2025 at 10.30am through zoom meeting. The session was conducted by Biocon Academy on the topic “Introduction of Course”. The resource persons were Mr. RAMGOPAL RAO SAJJALAGUDDAM, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR - BIOCON ACADEMY highlighted the importance of industry-oriented training, skill development, and career opportunities in the biotechnology sector. Students gained valuable insights into the relevance of specialized courses and their role in shaping professional growth. The interactive session was well received by participants, who appreciated the practical guidance and knowledge shared by Biocon Academy. Overall, the session was so informative for the students.

The Training and Placement Cell in association with IQAC conducted a week-long awareness session for second-year students from 12th to 20th June 2025. The resource person for the session was Ms. Haritha Viswanath, Training and Placement officer. The primary objective of the session was to familiarize students with the role, activities, and significance of the Training and Placement Cell in shaping their career path. Students were briefed on the various training programs, placement drives, skill development workshops, and industry collaborations facilitated by the cell. The session also highlighted the importance of resume building, communication skills, and interview readiness. Active student participation and interaction made the session informative and impactful, laying a strong foundation for their future professional journey.

The Department of Multimedia of GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), in association with the Photography Club, Film Club, and AUP School, Mannazhi, organized a hands-on training program for school students in filmmaking and photography on 19th September 2025 at AUP School, Mannazhi. The session began at 9:30 AM and aimed to provide participants with practical exposure to the art of visual storytelling.

The program was designed to bridge the gap between theoretical learning and practical application by engaging students in real-time exercises. 26 school students were introduced to the basics of filmmaking and photography, including camera handling, framing, lighting, composition, and exposure. They were then guided through a practical workshop that allowed them to shoot short scenes and practice what they had learned.

Mr. Sanal Sudhakaran and six student representatives from the Department of Multimedia served as trainers, ensuring an interactive and engaging learning environment. The participants actively took part in the activities and collaborated in groups, which helped them enhance their technical skills as well as teamwork and creativity.

The program successfully sparked interest in media production among school students and encouraged them to explore filmmaking and photography as potential creative pursuits. Feedback collected from participants reflected a high level of satisfaction, with many requesting more advanced sessions in the future that focus on editing and post-production techniques. This initiative served as a valuable extension activity, strengthening the collaboration between the college and the school and providing an enriching experience for everyone involved.

The Department of Multimedia, in association with IQAC Gems College, organized an extension activity titled “Smiles Beyond Age” on 25th August 2025 at 10:00 AM. The program involved a meaningful visit to Saketham Old Age Home, Vylongara, with the objective of sharing time, joy, and warmth with the elderly residents.

Most of the students from the final year BA Multimedia batch enthusiastically participated in the program. The visit provided them with an opportunity to interact with the senior citizens, listen to their life experiences, and understand the value of compassion and empathy in society. The students engaged the residents through conversations, songs, and light-hearted activities that created a cheerful atmosphere and brought smiles to their faces.

The event highlighted the importance of social responsibility and human values, reminding students that true education goes beyond academic learning. By spending time with the elderly, the students not only brightened the day of the residents but also gained a deeper appreciation of intergenerational bonding and the need to respect and care for senior members of the community.

Overall, the visit was a heartwarming experience that left a lasting impact on both the students and the elderly residents.

The Second lecture in the series  was delivered by Dr. Suma Arun Dev, Principal scientist & Head Forest genetics and tree breeding, Forest biotechnology , KFRI Thrissur Kerala, on the topic “DNA tools for Timber Forensics.” In her lecture, Dr. Suma highlighted the importance of molecular biology techniques in addressing the challenges of illegal logging and timber trade. She explained how DNA-based tools can be effectively used to identify tree species and trace their geographic origin, thus providing strong scientific evidence in forest law enforcement and conservation efforts. She further elaborated on the methodologies used in DNA fingerprinting, barcoding, and genotyping for timber identification. These advanced tools not only help in preventing biodiversity loss but also play a vital role in ensuring sustainable forest management.

The Third lecture was delivered by Dr. Balagopalan Unni, Former. Chief Scientist,CSIR DSIR, Department of Science & Technology , Govt of India, on the topic “The functional properties of Insect natural and synthetic neuropeptides : a comparative study”. In his lecture , Dr. Balagopalan Unni provided a comprehensive overview of insect neuropeptides, highlighting their crucial roles in regulating physiological processes such as growth, reproduction, and behavior. The lecture also focused on a comparative analysis of natural and synthetic neuropeptides, emphasizing their structural differences, functional similarities, and potential applications.

The felicitation speeches were delivered by Dr.Anu P. A Head of the Department Biotechnology, Dr.Naveen Mohan ,Principal,, and Shri.M. Vasudevan Vice Chairman, GEMS Arts and Science College.They all appreciated the  program very much.   Dr.Sandhya  Balakrishnan, Principal Investigator of the project delivered the vote of thanks and special appreciation was given to the authorities of St.Mary’s college for hosting the function at their campus. The faculties and students from both the colleges and nearby colleges attended the function.The lecture was very much appreciated by the students of nearby colleges and the faculties attended the function.

To mark the significance of International Microorganisms Day, the Department of Microbiology, in association with IQAC and MBSI, organized a series of awareness and student-centered activities on 17th September 2025. The programme aimed to highlight the role of microorganisms in health, safety, and education while encouraging student participation through creative initiatives.

As part of the programme, an awareness video on Amoebic Meningitis was released on the department’s official Instagram page at 2:30 PM. The video aimed to spread knowledge about the disease, its causes, preventive measures, and the importance of public health awareness regarding microbial infections.

In addition to the online initiative, an on-campus Cartoon Making Competition was organized on the theme “Lab Safety Gone Wrong.” The event received enthusiastic participation from students, who creatively highlighted the significance of laboratory safety practices through their artworks.

The winners of the competition were:

• First Prize: Liyana (S5 B.Sc. Microbiology)

• Second Prize: Bahjathunnaila (S3 B.Sc. Microbiology)

The programme, jointly coordinated with IQAC and MBSI, was a successful blend of digital awareness and creative student participation, making the observance of International Microorganisms Day both informative and memorable.

15 students from the second year Multimedia Department participated in the Cultural Fest conducted by Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. The team secured the second prize in the Photography Competition and was honored with a memento, cash prize, and certificates.
