PG Department of Commerce of GEMS Arts and Science college organized a workshop for PG students unlocking insights with SPSS : A statistical package for the social science on 21/03/2025 at APJ Abdul Kalam Digital library and research centre. The workshop aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge require to use SPSS for data analysis. The workshop began with a welcome address by Fathima Ahamedkutty (S4 M.Com student). Fathima welcomed the resource person Dr.Salini K and the participants emphasizing the importance of SPSS in data analysis.

Dr. Salini K ,the resource person conducted an interactive and hands on technical session. She introduced the participants to the basics of SPSS covering topics such as data entry, data manipulation, descriptive statistics and regression analysis.

The workshop witnessed active participation from the attendees, who engaged in discussion, asked questions and shared their experiences. The feedback received from the participants were overwhelmingly positive .At last Shamna Sherin T (S4 M.Com student) proposed vote of thanks.

The Department of Travel and Tourism Management, organized a successful Mastering Research Project Planning - A Step-by-Step Guide to Project Preparation program on 9th April 2025, at the MP Narayana Menon Hall of Gems Arts and Science College, Ramapuram. The session aimed at guiding students and faculty members through the essential steps of research project preparation, focusing on how to effectively plan, organize, and execute a research project from the ground up. The Department of Travel and Tourism Management hosted a workshop titled Mastering Research Project Planning: A Step-by-Step Guide to Project Preparation, conducted by Dr. Abdul Rasheed M. The session, which ran from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, was held at the MP Narayana Menon Hall and was attended by students, faculty, and researchers interested in honing their research project skills.
The day commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Muhammed Ansar, Assistant Professor, Mr.Abdul Latheef Aslam C, Assistant Professor Department of Travel and Tourism Management, delivered the presidential address. Dr. Abdul Rasheed M opened the session by introducing the fundamental concepts of research project planning. He emphasized the importance of having a clear roadmap before diving into the research work. Dr. Rasheed outlined the key stages of a research project: problem identification, literature review, research design, data collection, analysis, and report writing. Dr. Abdul Rasheed M wrapped up the session by reiterating the importance of strategic planning and time management in successful research. He encouraged participants to apply the steps discussed in the workshop to their own projects and seek mentorship where needed.

The PG Department of English Language and Literature of GEMS Arts and Science College conducted a Workshop titled " PROJECT/DISSERTATION WORKSHOP FOR MA AND BA ENGLISH STUDENTS" at Research and Innovation Centre on 13th January 2025 at 10.00 AM.

The class was handled by Mr.Muhammed Ali P, Assistant Professor, Unity Women's college Manjeri.. The Project and Dissertation Workshop was designed to provide essential guidance

and support for students engaged in academic research and long-term projects. The primary

focus of the workshop was to help students understand the key components of managing,

structuring, and completing their projects and dissertations successfully. This programme equip students with the necessary skills to plan and organize their dissertation or project and provide an understanding of research methodologies and how to apply them effectively. It also offers advice on writing, structuring, and presenting research findings. It guides students through the process of selecting a topic, managing time, and avoiding common pitfalls and to offer insights on referencing, academic integrity, and avoiding plagiarism. Total of 37 students from both BA and MA English participated in the program.

The PG Department of Social Work organized a one-day SPSS workshop for MSW second-year students on 5th April 2025, from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Digital Library, Library Block. Mr. Lineesh, Assistant Professor at KMCT College, Mukkam, who provided an engaging and practical introduction to SPSS software, focusing on data entry, descriptive statistics, and basic data analysis techniques relevant to social work research, led the session. The workshop enabled students to gain hands-on experience in using SPSS for their academic and research, making it a highly informative and enriching session.

The PG Department of Social Work celebrated its 10th-year anniversary with a joyful alumni meet. Former students from the 2015 to 2024 batches took part and made the event special. During the program, an Alumni Association was formed, and office bearers such as President, Vice President, Secretary, Joint Secretary, Treasurer, and Event Coordinator were elected from different batches. Five members were also selected as Executive Members. The event was a great success, with alumni promising their support for all future departmental activities. The Alumni Association also made some important decisions to strengthen the functioning of the department with the support of its members.

PG Department of Commerce, Gems Arts and Science College as a part of Student Exchange Programme-an Extension activity in association with SAFA College of Arts and Science organized a seminar on "Intellectual Property Rights and Consumer Protection Act" on 27/03/2025 Thursday at10 am on MP Narayana Menon Hall. The event aimed to create awareness among PG and UG students and faculty members about the importance of intellectual property rights and consumer rights.
The seminar began with a welcome address by Thanseela K, 2nd semester M.Com student who welcomed the dignitaries, resource persons, and participants. The Presidential Address was given by Mr.Sivakumar K,HOD PG Department of Commerce. In his presidential address, emphasized the significance of intellectual property rights and consumer rights in today's world. He highlighted the need for awareness and education on these rights. The felicitation was done by Mr.Mohamed Navas K -Vice Principal, Mr.Mohammed Ashraf M-Associate Professor and Ms.Saritha A- Assistant Professor PG Department of Commerce, sharing their insights and experiences on intellectual property rights and consumer rights.
The seminar was presented by Mr.Afthab Hadi Elachola and Mr.Muhammed Haneen B.Com students of Safa College of Arts and Science. They presented a comprehensive seminar on Intellectual Property Rights and Consumer Protection Act. They covered topics such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, consumer safety and consumer protection laws. Total number of participants was 33.
At last of this occasion Faheem K- 4th semester M.Com student proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the resource persons, dignitaries, and participants for making the seminar a success.
The seminar was a huge success, with participants gaining valuable insights into intellectual property rights and consumer rights. The institution plans to organize more such events to create awareness and promote education on these important topics. Fathima Ahammedkutty efficiently anchored the seminar, ensuring a smooth flow of events throughout the day.

In an exciting development, the Department of Multimedia at GEMS College inaugurated its new campus radio channel with a grand broadcast on 27th February 2025. The first program was aired at 12:20 PM via the college’s public addressing system, reaching all classes and marking a significant milestone in the department’s journey toward modern media engagement. Prior to the broadcast, the department unveiled the new campus radio logo at the residence of the Honorable Chairman, Mr. Manjalamkuzhi Ali MLA, at 9:00 AM on the same day.A team of six final-year Multimedia students, under the expert supervision of Mr. Suhailudheen, Assistant Professor of the Department of Multimedia, meticulously prepared the broadcast. The inaugural program featured a live radio talk show with distinguished guests, Dr. Naveen Mohan and RJ Nidha, whose insightful discussion captivated the audience. This pioneering initiative showcased the talents of the students and demonstrated the department’s commitment to blending academic learning with practical media experience. The historic launch marks a new era for campus communication, inspiring creativity and excellence among students, faculty, and staff. Overall, the event laid a robust foundation for future broadcasts and innovative multimedia projects at GEMS College. This milestone event promises ongoing media innovation ahead.

The Department of Multimedia at GEMS Arts and Science College successfully conducted an extension activity by providing video and photography coverage for *Snehasparsham*, a pain and palliative patients’ gathering program organized by the Family Health Centre, Puzhakkattiri, under the Government of Kerala. The event took place on 18th February 2025,  from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. As part of this initiative, four second-year multimedia students actively participated in documenting the event, capturing both photographs and video footage to support media documentation. This activity provided the students with **valuable hands-on experience in real-world event coverage while also contributing to a socially responsible cause.The program aimed at extending care and emotional support to pain and palliative patients, highlighting the importance of community involvement in healthcare initiatives. The Department of Multimedia remains committed to utilizing media skills for social service and looks forward to more such collaborative efforts in the future. 

The BA Multimedia S4 students of GEMS Arts and Science College embarked on an academic study tour to Media One Channel, Kozhikode, on 14th February 2025. The visit was organized as part of their curriculum to provide students with practical exposure to the media industry and enhance their understanding of television journalism, broadcasting, and newsroom operations.  A total of 26 students, accompanied by Assistant Professors Sanal Sudhakaran and Mehereban, departed from the college at 8:00 AM. Upon reaching Media One at 10:00 AM, the students were welcomed by media professionals and given a guided tour of the newsroom and studio. They observed live news production, editing processes, and technical aspects of broadcasting. Interactive sessions with journalists and production staff allowed students to gain valuable insights into news reporting, anchoring, and media ethics.The visit provided a real-world perspective on the theories taught in classrooms, bridging the gap between academic learning and industry practices. Beyond the channel visit, students also engaged in trekking and photography activities, further developing their creative and observational skills.This educational tour not only enriched their academic knowledge but also inspired students to explore career opportunities in media and journalism.

In a heartwarming gesture, the Nature Club at GEMS Arts and Science College organized a noble initiative, "Paravakudam," to provide water pots for birds. This thoughtful program was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Abdul Latheef Aslam,Nature Club Coordinator.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of the College Principal, Mr. Naveen Mohan, and Vice Principal, Mr. Navas. The program also witnessed participation from esteemed Assistant Professors including Mr. Jeevesh, Mr. Samad, Mr. Shiva Kumar, Mr. Rihas, and Mr. Anoos Babu. Campus Manager Mr. mohammadali sir , Mr. Abdhullakka, also joined in to lend his support.
The highlight of the event was when the College Chairman, Mr. Fuad, poured water into the pot, symbolizing the college's commitment to caring for the well-being of birds. Members of the Nature Club actively participated and coordinated the program, embodying the spirit of compassion and responsibility towards the environment.
The "Paravakudam" initiative is a timely reminder of the importance of conservation and wildlife preservation. As the summer months approach, the college community has come together to promote a simple yet impactful message: "Be there for birds this summer; keep a pot of water for them." This thoughtful gesture is a testament to the college's dedication to fostering a culture of empathy and environmental stewardship.
