Club Dream Unlockers successfully conducted a debate training program in preparation for the "Speak for India" competition, an esteemed debate contest organized by Mathrubhumi and Federal Bank. The initiative aimed to equip participants with essential debating skills, enhancing their confidence, critical thinking, and articulation. The primary goal of the training program was to prepare students for the "Speak for India" competition by refining their debating techniques, improving their public speaking skills, and fostering logical reasoning. The program was designed to simulate real debate scenarios and provide hands-on experience to the participants. A total of nine students actively participated in the training sessions. The training was conducted over a structured schedule, ensuring that participants gained a thorough understanding of debate dynamics. Expert mentors guided the students through practical exercises, engaging discussions, and interactive activities to hone their debating prowess. The debate training program organized by Club Dream Unlockers was a resounding success, providing valuable exposure and skill enhancement to the participants. It served as an excellent platform for students to prepare for the "Speak for India" competition, fostering a spirit of healthy debate and intellectual growth.

As part of their commitment to social responsibility and community service, 12 students from GEMS Arts and Science College actively participated in the volunteership for the Kalolstavam event organized by BUDS School at Tirur Town Hall. The event took place over three days: 3rd December 2024, 4th December 2024, and 5th December 2024. This initiative allowed the students to contribute positively to the community while also fostering values of empathy, cooperation, and social awareness.

The Kalolstavam event, hosted by BUDS School, aimed to provide a platform for individuals with special needs to showcase their talents, engage in creative activities, and participate in a variety of social, cultural, and educational programs. It was a significant event for the local community, bringing together students, parents, educators, and volunteers in a collaborative environment focused on inclusion and empowerment. The GEMS Arts and Science College students provided essential support throughout the event, contributing in the following areas: Students helped guide the participants of the Kalolstavam event, offering assistance to those who needed support during activities, ensuring that they felt comfortable and engaged, they were involved in organizing various event sessions, ensuring the smooth flow of activities, coordinating between different groups, and providing logistical support to the event organizers, the volunteers participated in organizing recreational and creative workshops, including art activities and music sessions, ensuring that all participants were included and supported, ensuring the safety and comfort of all participants, especially those with special needs, was a top priority. The students were responsible for helping maintain a safe environment for everyone, they helped with general event setup, decoration, and cleanup, ensuring the venue was ready for each day’s activities.

The volunteership provided by the students of GEMS Arts and Science College for the Kalolstavam at Tirur Town Hall was an outstanding example of community service, offering students valuable opportunities to engage with the local community while promoting inclusivity and social responsibility. Their dedicated efforts helped make the event a success, supporting participants and organizers in delivering a memorable experience for everyone involved.

This experience not only contributed to the growth and development of the students but also reinforced the importance of volunteering as a means of giving back to society. The students’ involvement in this initiative reflects the values of teamwork, kindness, and social awareness that GEMS Arts and Science College strives to instill in its students.

The Government of India designated February 28 as National Science Day (NSD) in 1986. On this day, Sir C.V. Raman announced the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930. On this occasion, theme-based science communication activities are carried out all over the country.

The 'HUMANTA '25 National Social Work Conference, themed "Social Work 360°: Exploring Impact, Challenges, and Future Pathways" organized by the PG Department of Social Work at GEMS Arts and Science College, Malappuram, successfully concluded. This conference explored the diversity of social interventions and critically analyzed emerging opportunities and challenges in the field of social work education. More than 100 students from leading colleges and universities across India and beyond participated in the event.
Dr. B.G. Unni (Academic Director, GEMS College) inaugurated the conference. The keynote speakers included Dr. Rajendra Baikady (Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Central University of Kerala) and Suhail Babu (Expressive Arts Therapist, Social Worker). Dr. Naveen Mohan (Principal, GEMS College) presided over the conference.
GEMS College Director P.T. Hamsa, along with Muhammad Rihas, Abin P.C., Anas Tharakan, and Pooja Jayaraj (Assistant Professors GEMS college,) extended their best wishes. Anita Parveen J., Head of the Department of Social Work, GEMS College, welcomed the gathering, while Gopika M.(Assistant Professor, GEMS College) delivered the vote of thanks.
The conference served as a significant global platform for academic discourse, with the presentation of 38 research papers. Dr. Safeer A (Principal, MSTM College, Perinthalmanna) and Dr. Vinci Abraham (Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Christ College, Irinjalakkuda) served as the evaluators for the paper presentations.
By examining innovative opportunities and unique challenges in the field of social work, the conference became an inspiring platform for students and researchers alike.

On February 14, 2025, the PG Department of Microbiology, in collaboration with the NSS GEMS Unit (246), organized a Blood Donation Camp. Originally scheduled at M P Narayana Menon Hall, the venue was moved to Rooms No. 108 and 109 for better setup. Held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, the camp aimed to promote voluntary blood donation. Students, staff, and faculty participated, with NSS volunteers and microbiology students assisting in registration, managing donor flow, and educating participants. Trained medical staff ensured all safety protocols were followed. A total of 69 units of blood were collected and donated to the MVR Cancer Centre in Calicut, benefiting cancer patients and others in critical need. The event raised awareness about the importance of regular blood donation, highlighting the spirit of social responsibility. It was a success, reflecting the commitment of the PG Department of Microbiology and NSS GEMS Unit to supporting community health.

This FDP aims to provide faculty members with insights into the key aspects of obtaining and maintaining autonomous status under UGC regulations. The discussions will focus on essential prerequisites, benefits, and the challenges associated with autonomy.

All faculty members are encouraged to participate in this insightful session to enhance their understanding of academic autonomy and institutional development.

On 11th December 2024, the Placement Cell, in association with the IQAC and Edroots International, organized a workshop on "Interview Skills and Resume Making" for final-year students. The event, held at the MP Narayana Menon Hall from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM, aimed to prepare students for their transition into the professional world by enhancing their employability skills.

The workshop sought to familiarize participants with effective interview techniques and guide them in crafting professional resumes. Final-year students and tutors actively participated, making the event both engaging and impactful. The program began with a welcome address and introduction by Mr. Mohammed Shammas K, Placement cell coordinator, followed by an in-depth session on interview skills conducted by Mr.Dhyan and Ms. Saritha, career experts from Edroots International. After a lunch break, the afternoon session focused on resume-making strategies, offering actionable tips and examples to help students create impressive and professional resumes. The workshop concluded with a Q&A session, allowing participants to clarify their doubts and receive personalized guidance.

Students appreciated the interactive nature of the workshop, particularly the role-playing and mock interview activities that simulated real-world scenarios. The practical insights shared during the sessions were highly valued, and the feedback received from participants highlighted the relevance and effectiveness of the program.

On 11th February 2025, the placement cell in association with Talrop private Ltd and IQAC conducted a campus interview. The event aimed to provide students with an opportunity to interact with potential employers and secure job placements. A total of 52 students participated in the first session.
The event followed a structured agenda. The day commenced with registration and a welcome note by Placement Cell Coordinator Mohammed Shammas K. providing an overview of the interview process. Talrop team members introduced the company and its vision. The first stage consisted of a Group Discussion (GD) session where candidates were divided into groups and given topics to discuss. This session aimed to assess communication, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Out of 52 participants, 14 students were shortlisted for the next stage based on their performance. In the second stage, the shortlisted candidates participated in individual face-to-face interviews with the company representatives. The selected candidates will be interviewed in online mode with HR when the result is published.
The campus interview session was successfully conducted, providing a valuable platform for students to showcase their skills and secure job opportunities.

The PG Department of Microbiology inaugurated its association, Microvista, on February 5, 2025, marking the beginning of an exciting academic year filled with learning and innovation. The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Shabana Mol S, Research Director and Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, SAFI Institute of Advanced Studies.

Dr. Shabana Mol S, in her address, highlighted the vast career opportunities in microbiology, particularly in research and innovation. She emphasized the significance of advancements in microbiology and encouraged students to explore various domains such as clinical research, industrial microbiology, and environmental microbiology.

Following the inaugural session, engaging activities such as a puzzle challenge and an online treasure hunt were conducted, fostering enthusiasm and teamwork among students. These activities aimed to test their analytical skills and knowledge in microbiology in a fun and interactive manner.

The afternoon session witnessed a vibrant cultural program presented by students, showcasing their talents through music, dance, and drama. The event successfully combined academic excellence with extracurricular activities, making it an inspiring and memorable occasion for all attendees.

The Microvista inauguration set the stage for a dynamic year ahead, promoting knowledge, creativity, and collaboration among students in the field of microbiology.
