The Alumni Lecture Series 2, held on 29th Jan 2025 from 8:00 pm to 9:30 pm via Google Meet, featured a webinar on “The Role of CSR in Promoting Community Development” by resource person Shahala Shari M.T. The event, organized by PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science college, Ramapuram aimed to explore the significance of Corporate Social Responsibility in driving community development initiatives and attracted the MSW trainees or participants, including students, and faculty members. Shahala Shari emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships, inclusive and sustainable development, and CSR as a catalyst for community development, sparking a lively Q&A session and receiving positive feedback from participants.

s part of National Human Trafficking Awareness Day, the Anti-Human Trafficking Club in collaboration with the PG Department of Social Work is organizing a film screening on January 16, 2025, at 2 PM in MP Narayana Menon Hall. The event aims to raise awareness about human trafficking through a thought-provoking film.

On January 15, 2025, the first-year MSW students of the PG Department of Social Work of GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, took an active role in a fundraising and awareness initiative as part of Palliative Care Day. The event, organized in collaboration with the Palliative Clinic, Kadungapuram, aimed to raise funds and spread awareness about the vital role of palliative care in the community.
The students were divided into groups and assigned various strategic locations across Ramapuram, Puzhakkattiri, and Kadungapuram. At each location, the students engaged with the public, explaining the purpose of the campaign and encouraging contributions. The enthusiastic efforts of the students led to a substantial collection of funds, which were contributed to the Palliative Clinic to support their services.
Following the fundraising activities, the students organized a concluding awareness rally. The rally covered the key areas of Ramapuram, Puzhakkattiri, and Kadungapuram, where students marched with banners and placards displaying messages about the importance of palliative care. Pamphlets and brochures detailing palliative care services were distributed to residents, effectively educating the community on the subject.
The event was a commendable success, with enthusiastic participation from both the students and the local populace. The combined efforts in fundraising and awareness-building highlighted the critical need for palliative care and strengthened community support for the cause.

The Department of Multimedia organized Shutter Miles 2K24: A North Indian Photography and Video Production Camp for 30 BA Multimedia S6 students from 24th December 2024 to 3rd January 2025. Accompanied by faculty members Muhammed Binshad K (HoD), Muhammed Shammas K, and Rekha R, the program aimed to provide students with hands-on experience in travel video production and thematic photography, fostering their creative and technical skills.The camp focused on various photographic styles, including street, architectural, cultural, food, and landscape photography. The itinerary covered Agra, Delhi, Kullu, and Manali, each location offering distinct opportunities to explore and capture stunning visuals.
Highlights of the camp included photographing the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra, exploring street and architectural photography in Delhi, and capturing the breathtaking landscapes of Kullu and Manali. Adventure activities such as trekking, river rafting, and paragliding added exciting dynamic elements to the photography and video content, enhancing the students’ portfolios.In addition to photography, students created a travel documentary under the guidance of faculty members, blending compelling visuals with narratives to encapsulate the journey’s essence. This integrated approach offered students practical insights into storytelling and video production.Shutter Miles 2K24 concluded with students producing a professional photography magazine and travel documentary as academic outputs. The program successfully enriched their practical learning experiences, enabling them to hone their multimedia skills and develop a deeper appreciation for visual storytelling

Our college organized an insightful Faculty Development Programme on Saturday, 4th January 2025, at the MP Narayana Menon Hall. The session, conducted from 1:30 PM to 5:30 PM, was led by the esteemed Dr. K.P. Najeemudeen, a renowned career and entrepreneurship coach, professor, and author.Dr. Najeemudeen brought a wealth of knowledge and practical insights to the programme, addressing key aspects of career development and entrepreneurial thinking relevant to the modern educational landscape. The session was meticulously structured,full of games fostering active engagement and thought-provoking discussions among the faculty members.

The Course Awareness and Orientation Program was conducted by the PG Department of Microbiology in collaboration with the KCK Institute of Water Treatment and Technology to introduce the students to the course structure, its relevance, and career prospects. The program was on 03.01.2025 at 10 am. The venue was M P Narayana Menon Hall. The program commenced with a welcome address by Ms. Shameema M, Assistant Professor at the PG Department of Microbiology, who warmly welcomed the participants and outlined the significance of the session. 

The program introduction was presented by Ms. Resna N K, the Head of the Department, who elaborated on the scope of microbiology in contemporary fields, especially in water treatment and technology, and how the course aligns with these emerging sectors. 

The highlight of the event was the insightful session led by the resource person Mr. Vyasan PM, a renowned mentor and influencer, who shared valuable knowledge on career opportunities, technological advancements, and the importance of microbiology in water treatment. 

Staff members of the KCK Institute were present to offer their expertise, and a total of 79 students participated in the program. The session concluded with a feedback session, where students shared their thoughts on the program. The event was formally wrapped up with a vote of thanks by Ms. Jamseera Rosini M, Assistant Professor at the PG Department of Microbiology. The program successfully engaged students and set the stage for their academic journey

GEMS Arts & Science college (Affiliated University of Calicut) organized the Twelfth  Chairman's Lecture Series on 16th December 2024.  Brief introduction about the lecture series and the importance of such lectures by the prominent speakers were explained by Dr.BG Unni Director Academic and Research at the beginning of the lecture. Ms. Sultana Afroza Assistant Professor, Department of English Language and Literature introduced briefly about the distinguished chief guest of the day. Dr Renu Swarup, Former Secretary of Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India  was the speaker and she  spoke on the topic Biotechnology —Revolutionising Innovative Product development .Dr.Renu swarup initiated her lecture quoting the historical beginning of biotechnology  and  the current status of the biotechnology in our country and also talked about the development of biotechnology at  the benefit of the society. She recalled that  In the past century, people have witnessed how innovation has driven growth and  development across the globe. Countries around the world are increasingly investing in research and development (R&D) in science and technology to  boost productivity and 

address pressing development challenges. She mentioned that in India too, several government policies have been introduced to stimulate innovation to unleash the country’s true potential. It is well recognised that scientific  strength matched with entrepreneurship skill , has the potential to bring out products that could not only transform our country and economy, but also shape modern societies. She said that new technology breakthroughs have over years shown how new product development is a dynamically growing cycle .The pathway from new discovery to product development exhibits how knowledge driven translational science is imperative to drive bio economic growth .

         She mentioned in her lecture that in the recent years people  have seen how with the onset of the Pandemic in early 2020 , the world focussed its attention on the Scientists and researchers for finding science base solutions to fight this war .A tiny RNA virus brought the world to a grinding halt an impacted the health , economy and livelihood of mankind .The focus was on Biotechnology  to find affordable solutions for understanding and tackling the virus . From Gene sequencing to Diagnostics to Vaccines and antivirals , Biotechnology has been the key sector which very efficiently delivered new technologies and products to address the  challenges of COVID.  She said that unlike other Industrial sectors, Biotech has seen unprecedented growth and is well positioned to achieve a target of over $150b by 2025 .

   Dr.Swarup concluded her speech by mentioning that Biotechnology has continuously evolved and new emerging and disruptive technologies have given us the confidence of science solving major problems . From healthcare ,to agriculture to clean energy and climate change ,new technology advancements are  continuously helping  the people/society  to develop innovative ,affordable and accessible products which meet the needs of society and meet our sustainable development goals .The translational value chain should be fuelled continuously — we must continue to let  curiosity drive our innovation ,we must keep ourselves geared up to keep pace with the fast advancing technology development and ensure that  we have the required capacities both infrastructure and human resource . She said that biotechnology has the potential —- let us exploit its potentially fully to meet the unmet needs and revolutionise new product development

Seminar on “Shaping the Future with AI" was held at the CS Lab, GEMS Arts and Science College, Ramapuram, on December 11, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. The session was organized by the Department of Computer Science, under the facilitation of Mr. Anoos Babu, Head of the Department, and was conducted by Mr. Fahal Salam, Senior Software Engineer and Technology Lead from Scanntek NEDZ Minds, Calicut.

The primary objective of this session was to introduce students and faculty to the potential and future applications of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The session aimed to provide insights into AI technologies, their current impact across various industries, and how they will shape the future of technology, business, and society. It also highlighted the importance of AI in the evolving landscape of computer science and its role in driving innovation.

The session included a practical demonstration of AI applications. Students were shown simple AI tools and platforms they can explore to start experimenting with AI on their own. Mr. Salam also encouraged students to focus on building skills in AI-related programming languages and frameworks. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where students raised questions related to AI development, career opportunities in AI, and the challenges faced by professionals working in AI fields. Mr. Salam provided insightful answers, encouraging students to actively engage in AI research and development.

The session "Shaping the Future with AI" was an enriching experience for all participants. Mr. Fahal Salam's expertise in AI, combined with his practical experience, provided students with a deeper understanding of how AI is transforming the world. The session inspired many students to explore AI as a potential career path and emphasized the importance of acquiring skills in this rapidly growing field. The Department of Computer Science, under the leadership of Mr. Anoos Babu, played a pivotal role in organizing this informative session, which is expected to leave a lasting impact on the attendees' academic and professional journeys.
