GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, successfully organized the Student Induction Programme 2026–27 on 29 June 2026 at the Kattilasseri Muhammed Musliar Open Auditorium. The programme commenced at 10.00 AM with a prayer by the College Choir, followed by the welcome address by the Principal, Dr. Naveen Mohan. The event was presided over by Mr. Vasudevan M., Vice Chairman, and formally inaugurated by Shri. Manjalamkuzhi Ali, MLA and Hon. Chairman.

As part of the inaugural function, the Academic Handbook-cum-Calendar was officially released, and certificates were distributed to Interzone Prize Winners and Rank Holders in recognition of their academic and extracurricular achievements. Students were also introduced to various Add-on Courses by Mr. Shameer, Director, JB International, highlighting opportunities for skill enhancement and career development. The programme included felicitations by the Director of Academic and Research, Vice Principal, Board of Directors, PTA representatives, and other dignitaries, followed by the election of the First-Year PTA Executive Members. The event concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Ranjusha V.P., Director-IQAC. The induction programme provided the newly admitted students and their parents with an inspiring introduction to the institution's academic environment, values, and student support initiatives, marking the beginning of a promising academic journey at GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous).

The Department of Computer Applications and Department of Computer Science, GEMS ASC (Autonomous), successfully conducted Day 7 of FDP 2026–2027 on 16th June 2026 at M.P. Narayana Menon Hall.The session on “Digital Workflow Management through ERP System” was delivered by Dr. Finose A., Vice Principal, GEMS ASC (Autonomous). The session highlighted the importance of ERP systems in improving digital workflow management and institutional efficiency.The Valedictory Session included seven-day FDP feedback and faculty reflections, addressed by Mr. M. Vasudevan Sir, Vice Chairman; Mr. P. T. Hamza Sir, Director; and Dr. Naveen Mohan, Principal, GEMS ASC (Autonomous).

As part of the ongoing Faculty Development Program (FDP) 2026–2027, the sixth day's session will be held on 15th June 2026 (Monday) from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Prem Nasir Audio Visual Theatre, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous).The session, titled “From Teacher to Mentor,” aims to provide valuable insights into the evolving role of educators in higher education, emphasizing mentorship, guidance, and holistic student development. The session will help faculty members strengthen their mentoring skills and foster meaningful academic and personal growth among students.The session will be led by Dr. N. P. Hafiz Mohammad, Former Professor and Head, Department of Sociology, University of Calicut.

The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized Alumni Lecture Series 15 titled “From Campus to Career”, a workshop on CV, Resume, LinkedIn & Interview Readiness for Social Work Students, on 2 June 2026 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Room No. 903, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad Block.
The programme was facilitated by Mr. Muhammed Murshid AP, a distinguished alumnus of the department, Soft & Life Skills Trainer, Educator, and Social Work Professional. The session was designed to prepare students for their transition from academic life to professional careers by equipping them with essential employability skills. During the workshop, the resource person provided practical guidance on developing professional CVs and resumes that effectively highlight academic achievements, fieldwork experiences, internships, and skills relevant to the social work profession. The participants were introduced to the importance of personal branding and maintaining a strong professional presence through LinkedIn. Strategies for creating impactful LinkedIn profiles, networking with professionals, and exploring career opportunities through digital platforms were discussed in detail.
The session also focused on interview readiness, covering topics such as communication skills, confidence building, professional etiquette, commonly asked interview questions, and techniques for presenting oneself effectively during recruitment processes. Through interactive discussions and real-life examples, students gained valuable insights into employer expectations and workplace professionalism.A total of 18 second-year MSW students participated in the programme and actively engaged in the discussions. The workshop provided them with practical tools and knowledge to enhance their career preparedness and employability.
The programme concluded successfully with positive feedback from the participants, who found the session informative, engaging, and highly relevant to their future career aspirations. The department expressed its gratitude to the resource person for sharing his expertise and valuable experiences with the students.

As part of the ongoing Faculty Development Program 2026–2027, the fifth day's session will be held on 12th June 2026 (Friday) from 10:30 AM to 3:30 PM at the Prem Nasir Audio Visual Theatre and Reading Hall, APJ Abdul Kalam Library and Research Centre, GEMS ASC.
The session, titled “Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence for Research and Teaching in Higher Education,” aims to equip faculty members with the knowledge and skills required to responsibly integrate AI tools into academic research, teaching, assessment, and scholarly communication.
The session will be led by Dr. K. S.Sowmiya Rani,Founder, Sowmis_AWW, an expert in AI-enabled education and research practices.

An Anti-Drug Awareness Program was conducted on 3 June 2026 (Wednesday) at 10:00 AM in our institution with the objective of creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse and substance addiction.The program commenced with a welcome address, followed by an informative session highlighting the physical, mental, social, and economic consequences of drug and substance abuse. The resource person emphasized the importance of making responsible choices and resisting peer pressure. Students were made aware of the various dangers associated with drug addiction and its impact on individuals, families, and society. As part of the program, students actively participated in discussions and awareness activities. An Anti-Drug Awareness Pledge was administered, during which all participants pledged to stay away from drugs and contribute towards building a healthy and drug-free society.As part of the ongoing Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign, students took a creative initiative to spread a powerful message through the traditional art of Rangoli. Moving beyond lectures and posters, the students used vibrant colors to depict the dangers of substance abuse and the beauty of a drug-free life.The program concluded with a vote of thanks. The session was highly informative and successful in promoting awareness and encouraging students to adopt a positive and healthy lifestyle.

The Department of Computer Applications, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), organized an AI Prompt Challenge titled “Green Minds with AI – Use AI to Solve Environmental Problems” in connection with World Environment Day on 05 June 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the BCA Lab.
The objective of the programme was to encourage students to utilize Artificial Intelligence creatively to address environmental issues and promote sustainable development. Participants were asked to design innovative AI prompts that generated solutions for environmental challenges such as waste management, renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, pollution control, climate change mitigation, and eco-friendly urban development.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who showcased their creativity and problem-solving abilities through well-structured AI prompts. The challenge provided an opportunity for students to explore the potential of AI in developing practical and sustainable solutions for a greener future.
The programme helped participants enhance their prompt engineering skills, environmental awareness, and understanding of AI applications in real-world scenarios. The judges evaluated the entries based on creativity, relevance, feasibility, and innovation.
The event concluded successfully with positive feedback from participants. The programme highlighted the importance of integrating technology and environmental responsibility and inspired students to think innovatively about sustainable solutions for the future.

The Charity Club of GEMS Arts and Science College organized a fundraising programme to provide financial assistance for the medical treatment of Mr. Shafeeq Melethil, a stroke patient. The programme was conducted as part of the club’s commitment to social service and community welfare.The fundraising programme was conducted on 11 June 2026 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Charity Club members actively collected contributions from students, teaching staff, and non-teaching staff of GEMS Arts and Science College.

The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, in association with KAPS Malappuram Chapter, organized an orientation programme titled *“Introduction to MSW Specializations: An Orientation Session”* on 08 June 2026 at MP Narayana Menon Hall.The programme began with a welcome address by Ms. Anitha Parveen J, Head of the Department of Social Work, who highlighted the importance of specialization in social work education and practice.The session on *Medical and Psychiatric Social Work (MPSW)* was led by *Dr. Mohammed Shafi K, Head, Department of Social Work, SNDP YSS College, Perinthalmanna, and President, KAPS Malappuram Chapter. The session on **Community Development (CD)* specialization was handled by *Mr. Mohammed Swalih P*, Assistant Professor, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Regional Campus, Tirur. Both resource persons explained the scope, career opportunities, and field practice aspects of their respective specializations.
The programme was interactive and helped students gain clarity regarding specialization choices and career prospects. A total of 16 MSW students participated in the session. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Fiba and Ms. Pavithra.
The orientation session successfully achieved its objective of guiding students in making informed decisions regarding their academic and professional pathways.

As part of the ongoing Faculty Development Program 2026–2027, the fourth day's session will be held on 11 June 2026 (Thursday) from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM at MP Narayana Menon Hall.

The session, titled “MySkillDB x GEMS: Preparing Students for a Test-First, Screen & Hire World,” will be led by distinguished experts Mr. Ajay Krishnan E. M., Country Head, MySkillDB; Mr. Mohammed Shafeek, CTO, MySkillDB; and Mr. V. K. Sasidharan, an instrumental figure in promoting Linux education across Kerala's schools and educational institutions.

All faculty members are requested to attend the session and actively participate to enhance their understanding of industry expectations and student employability.

Department of Sociology and Social Work

As part of the ongoing Faculty Development Program 2026–27, the third day's session will be held on 10 June 2026 (Wednesday) from 2:30 PM onwards at MP Narayana Menon Hall.

The session, titled “Effective Official Documentation – The Way to Maintain the Quality of Academic Institutions,” will be led by Dr. B. G. Unni, Former Chief Scientist, CSIR-DST, Government of India, and Director – Academic and Research, GEMS ASC.

All faculty members are requested to attend the session and actively participate to gain a better understanding of the principles and best practices of official documentation, record management, and quality assurance processes essential for academic excellence and institutional accreditation.
