The Training and Placement cell Organised an “Awareness Session on SBI Youth for India Fellowship” commenced at 10:00 AM at Library & Research Centre. Ms. Fairoosa T, Facilitator provided a comprehensive overview of the SBI Youth for India Fellowship, highlighting its vision, structure, eligibility criteria, application process, and the various thematic areas such as rural livelihood, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and women empowerment. The speaker explained how the fellowship offers young graduates an opportunity to gain real-world exposure, leadership skills, and social responsibility by working closely with rural communities across India. She also shared insights into the benefits of the fellowship, including professional development, mentorship, and a monthly stipend. An interactive session followed, where students actively participated by asking questions regarding selection procedures, field experience, and career prospects after completing the fellowship. Real-life examples and experiences shared by the facilitator made the session engaging and inspiring.
The Awareness Session on SBI Youth for India Fellowship was highly informative and impactful. The program successfully fulfilled its objective of guiding students toward socially responsible career opportunities and encouraging them to contribute to the development of the nation. The Training and Placement cell organised a programme on Topic “Career Blueprint 2028: Build Presence, Build Proof, Get Hired” was organized with the objective of equipping students with a clear career roadmap aligned with future industry expectations. The program was scheduled at MP Narayana Menon Hall by 10.00 AM on 28/01/2026, the resource person for the session was led by Ms. Cecily Varghese, Program Director, Xbyte Tera. The session aimed to help students understand the importance of building professional presence, developing demonstrable skills and proof of competence, and preparing themselves effectively for employability in the evolving job market.
The session was interactive, with students actively participating in discussions and seeking guidance on career planning, skill development, and placement preparation. The programme “Career Blueprint 2028: Build Presence, Build Proof, Get Hired” was successfully conducted and proved to be highly informative and impactful. The session effectively guided students in aligning their academic journey with industry expectations, thereby contributing significantly to their career preparedness and employability.

The PG Department of Social Work organized HUMANTA-26, the International Conference at GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) on 11th February 2026, marking a significant academic milestone for the institution.

The inaugural session was formally inaugurated by Dr. B. G. Unni, Academic and Research Director, GEMS ASC (Autonomous). The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms. Anitha Parveen J, Head, PG Department of Social Work. The Presidential Address was given by

Dr. Naveen Mohan, Principal, GEMS ASC. The session concluded with the Vote of Thanks proposed by Ms. Gopika M, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work.

 Prof. Imrul Kabir, Department of Social Work, Jamalpur Science and Technology University, Bangladesh and Dr. U. L. Muhammed Ashker, Postdoctoral Researcher, University of Malaya, Malaysia, Both international resource persons addressed the conference via online platform contributing global perspectives to the deliberations.Reshma Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor  Social Work Department, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, participated in person and delivered her session as the National Guest Speaker, enriching the conference with her direct engagement and scholarly insights.HUMANTA-26 brought together 109 participants, featuring 30 paper presentations from 18 campuses across Kerala, India, and abroad. Delegates actively participated as presenters and attendees, making the conference vibrant, intellectually enriching, and globally connected.The conference also featured an eminent panel of distinguished academicians, includingDr. Shiju Ealias, Principal, Alphonsa College, Thiruvambady. Dr. Safeer Athekkadan, Principal, MSTM College, PerinthalmannaDr. Vyshakh C M, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Sree Shankaracharya University of Sanskrit, RC Payyanur. Dr. Muhammad Shafi K, Head, Department of Social Work, SNDP CollegeThe conference concluded with the Valedictory Session, during which the Valedictory Note was delivered by Mr. Anas Tharakan, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Social Work. The Vote of Thanks for the Valedictory Function was proposed by Mr. Sarath K, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Social Work.Overall, the conference was a grand success, reflecting the collaborative spirit, and dedicated efforts of the organizing team and participants.

INTERSECT’26 – International Multidisciplinary Conference

The PG Department of English Language and Literature, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, successfully organized INTERSECT’26, a two-day International Multidisciplinary Conference on 16th and 17th February 2026. The conference explored the evolving relationship between memory, modernity, and media, focusing on the shift from traditional archives to algorithm-driven digital cultures. It brought together scholars, faculty members, research scholars, and students from across India and abroad to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue spanning literature, media studies, sociology, cultural studies, and technology.
The conference commenced with the inaugural session on 16 February 2026 at 10:00 AM. The Welcome Address was delivered by Ms. Sulthana Afrosa PP (HoD), followed by an introduction to the theme by Mr. Rihas KT. The inaugural address was delivered by Bernard Haykel, Professor of Near Eastern Studies, Princeton University, who spoke on the fragmentation of the global media landscape, the decline of authority, and the rise of polarization in digital knowledge production. The keynote address was delivered by Dr. B. G. Unni, Academic and Research Director, GEMS ASC (Autonomous). Felicitations were offered by dignitaries of the institution, and the session concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shibila A, Assistant Professor and Conference Coordinator.
The plenary sessions across two days featured distinguished speakers. On Day 1, S. A. Ajims (Senior News Editor, MediaOne) spoke on “Entering the Conversation: Memory, Modernity and Media.” On Day 2, Dr. K. M. Sherrif (Retd. Associate Professor, University of Calicut) delivered a lecture titled “Social Media: Alice’s Wonderland and Nightmare?”, and Avinash Kumar (Associate Professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University) addressed the theme “Neoliberal Globalisation and Imperialism of the Mind.” The sessions were chaired by eminent academicians from various institutions, ensuring rigorous academic engagement.
A major highlight of INTERSECT’26 was the paper presentation sessions conducted in both online and offline modes. A total of 68 papers were presented (27 online and 41 offline), covering diverse areas such as digital memory, algorithmic culture, AI, trauma studies, postcolonialism, platform culture, cinema studies, gender and queer theory, ecological trauma, and subaltern studies. The sessions reflected strong interdisciplinary participation and critical engagement with contemporary media ecologies.
The valedictory session on 17 February 2026 included the Conference Report presentation, participant reflections, and certificate distribution. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Shibila A.
INTERSECT’26 was a resounding success, fostering meaningful academic exchange on memory, media, and modernity. The hybrid format ensured inclusivity and wider participation, reinforcing GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous) as a vibrant centre for interdisciplinary research and scholarly dialogue.

A workshop on Job Interview Tips was conducted for the final-year students of all departments at M. P. Narayan Menon Hall. The programme was organized by the Training & Placement Cell in association with Edroots International, Workshop on Global Education and Career Opportunities and English Proficiency Tests on Wednesday, 14th January 2026, at 10:30 AM. The session was led by Mr. Salih V, Academic Advisor. The workshop aimed to create awareness among students about international study options, top universities, post-study work opportunities, and the importance of English proficiency tests such as IELTS. The speaker explained band scores, test structure, and preparation strategies, motivating students to plan their global academic and career pathways. The session was interactive and informative, and students actively participated in discussions and queries, making the program highly beneficial.
The workshop concluded with positive feedback from the participants, who expressed that the session was interesting, informative, and useful for their career readiness. Overall, the programme successfully achieved its objective of equipping students.

The session covered a wide range of essential interview-related topics including common interview questions, self-introduction techniques, first impression skills, body language, types of job interviews, and methods on how to get prepared for an interview. These points provided students with practical and relevant knowledge they can apply in real-world interview situations.
A unique and engaging highlight of the workshop was the inclusion of a mobile gaming activity using Kahoot, which added an interactive learning element to the session. Students enthusiastically participated in the quiz, making the workshop lively and highly engaging. The game-based learning approach helped reinforce key concepts in an enjoyable manner, ensuring active involvement from all participants.
The session was handled by Mr. Salih V, Academic Advisor, who led the workshop effectively by sharing valuable insights, real interview scenarios, and practical strategies. His interactive style and clear explanations made the session highly beneficial for students.

തിരുവനന്തപുരത്ത് സംസ്ഥാന ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ കൗൺസിൽ സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച ദേശീയ ഗവേഷണ സമ്മേളനത്തിലും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ പ്രദർശനത്തിലും രാമപുരം ജെംസ് ആർട്സ് ആൻഡ് സയൻസ് കോളേജ് പങ്കെടുത്തു. സ്വാശ്രയ മേഖലയിലെ ഏക ആർട്സ് ആൻഡ് സയൻസ് കോളേജായാണ് ജെംസ് ഈ വേദിയിൽ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ചത്. ഗവേഷണ സൗകര്യങ്ങൾ അവതരിപ്പിച്ച കോളേജിന്റെ പ്രദർശന പവലിയനിൽ ഗവേഷണ വിദ്യാർഥികളും അധ്യാപകരും സന്ദർശനം നടത്തി. ദേശീയ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ നയത്തിന്റെ ദർശനവുമായി ഒത്തുചേരുന്ന ആഭ്യന്തര ഗവേഷണ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങളിലെ പുരോഗതികളും വിവിധ ലാബുകളിലേക്കുള്ള ദൃശ്യപര്യടനവും അവതരിപ്പിച്ചു. നവീകരണം, അന്തർവിഭാഗ പഠനം, വിദ്യാർഥി കേന്ദ്രീകൃത ഗവേഷണം എന്നിവയിൽ കോളേജിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം പ്രദർശനത്തിൽ പ്രകടമായി. കൃത്രിമ ബുദ്ധി, അർധചാലക സാങ്കേതികവിദ്യ മേഖലകളിൽ നേരിട്ടുള്ള പരിശീലനം നൽകുന്ന സംസ്ഥാനത്തെ ആദ്യ ക്യാമ്പസ് എന്ന അംഗീകാരം ജെംസ് നേടിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. കേരളത്തിലെ ഉന്നത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് 55 സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾക്കു മാത്രമാണ് സമ്മേളനത്തിലും പ്രദർശനത്തിലും പങ്കാളിത്തം ലഭിച്ചത്. ജെംസ് കോളേജിന്റെ പങ്കാളിത്തം അക്കാദമികവും ഗവേഷണപരവുമായ മുന്നേറ്റത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ഘട്ടമായി വിലയിരുത്തപ്പെടുന്നു. ആദ്യഘട്ടത്തിൽ തന്നെ ദേശീയ നിലവാരത്തിലുള്ള എ ഗ്രേഡ് അംഗീകാരം നേടിയ കോളേജ് മന്ത്രിസഭയുടെ ഉന്നതത്വ പുരസ്‌കാരവും സ്വന്തമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. മഞ്ഞളാംകുഴി അലി എംഎൽഎ ചെയർമാനായിട്ടുള്ള ജെംസ് സഹകരണ സംഘത്തിന്റെ കീഴിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന കോളേജിൽ കഴിഞ്ഞ അക്കാദമിക വർഷം അധ്യാപകരും വിദ്യാർഥികളും ചേർന്ന് പത്ത് ഗവേഷണാവിഷ്കാരങ്ങൾക്ക് അംഗീകാരം നേടി.

The PG Department of Social Work, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), is organizing HUMANTA 26, an International Conference on the theme “Transforming Social Work: Addressing Emerging Needs, Scope, and Challenges”, on 11th February 2026 at the Prem Nazir Audio-Visual Theatre and Research Centre.

The conference deliberations focus on key sub-themes such as promoting mental wellbeing and the role of social workers, social work with vulnerable populations, interdisciplinary collaboration, migration, urbanization and community transformation, technology and digital innovations in practice, the future of social work education, family and child welfare, gender-responsive social work, green social work and environmental sustainability, as well as crisis intervention and disaster response.

The conference begins with the inaugural session led by Dr. B. G. Unni, Director of Academics and Research, GEMS Arts and Science College, who formally inaugurates the program and emphasizes the relevance of transforming social work education and practice in today’s rapidly changing world.

Prof. Imrul Kabir, from the Department of Social Work, Jamalpur Science and Technology University, Bangladesh, presents on “Social Work in the Era of Climate Change: Interventions for Sustainable Adaptation,” focusing on the role of social work in climate resilience and sustainable community interventions. The national guest speaker, Dr. Reshma Bharadwaj, Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady, speaks on “Emerging Trends Shaping Contemporary Social Work Practice,” highlighting new directions, challenges, and opportunities within the discipline.
