The English Language and Literature Association, ENGLORIA, organized an association programme on 03 February 2026 at MPN Hall, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The programme was designed to promote literary appreciation, language skills, and creative engagement among students.
The event was graced by guest speaker Deepa Nisanth, whose presence and insights enriched the academic and literary experience of the participants. The session aimed to inspire students through meaningful discussions and interactions related to English language and literature.
The programme featured a variety of academic and cultural activities, including a mentalist programme session by Mr. Noushad. The event included literary presentations, recitations, and interactive sessions. The invited guest shared valuable insights that inspired students to appreciate literature beyond the classroom and to develop confidence in language use. Students actively participated in the events, showcasing their talents, creativity, and critical thinking abilities.
The English Association Day was highly successful in achieving its objectives. The PG Department of Commerce, in association with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a peer teaching initiative titled “BHAVISHYA – PEER TEACHING: PEER PLUS” on 13th October 2025. The programme aimed to enhance the teaching and learning experience among postgraduate and undergraduate students through participatory and collaborative learning practices.
The initiative provided a platform for postgraduate students to take on the role of teachers, sharing their academic insights and practical knowledge with first-semester undergraduate students. This peer teaching exercise was designed to foster confidence, communication skills, and academic excellence among the students.
The primary objective of the “BHAVISHYA – Peer Teaching: Peer Plus” programme was to promote interactive and collaborative learning among students by providing a platform for shared academic engagement. It aimed to enhance the teaching and communication skills of postgraduate students, enabling them to gain practical exposure to instructional methods and classroom management. The initiative also sought to encourage a culture of knowledge sharing and peer mentoring within the department, fostering mutual academic growth. Moreover, the programme was designed to create a learner-centered educational environment that aligns with the IQAC’s commitment to promoting quality enhancement and innovative teaching practices in higher education
The peer teaching sessions under the “BHAVISHYA – Peer Teaching: Peer Plus” programme were conducted for various undergraduate commerce streams. For B.Com Computer Application, the session was held from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in Room No. 607. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Sivakumar, Head of the Department, PG Department of Commerce. The peer teaching was carried out by Ms. Thanseela K and Ms. Ansha V, both M.Com students, who focused on introductory concepts in commerce and the relevance of computer applications in modern business. Through interactive discussions and practical illustrations, they successfully engaged the students. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Muhammed Safan N, the class representative.
In the B.Com Finance section, the session took place from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM in Room No. 607, with Mr. Muhammed Ramees P, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, delivering the welcome address. The peer teachers, Mr. Mohammed Safwan A and Ms. Shaira Mashroora K, both M.Com students, presented insightful discussions on the fundamentals of financial management and budgeting, emphasizing the importance of financial literacy in business operations. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammed Shadin P.K, the class representative.
For B.Com Banking, the session was conducted from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM in Room No. 604, beginning with a welcome address by Ms. Saritha A, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce. The peer teachers, Ms. Anakha N and Ms. Fathima Afeedha E.C, both M.Com students, delivered an engaging session highlighting the core principles of banking and the evolution of digital banking systems. They effectively used real-world examples to help students understand the dynamics of modern banking operations. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Mohammed Abshan C, the class representative.
The B.Com Co-operation session was held from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM in Room No. 604, with Ms. Fathimath Sherin P, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, delivering the welcome address. The peer teaching was conducted by Ms. Devika K and Ms. Fathimath Rishana K, both M.Com students, who discussed the principles and practices of co-operative management. They provided valuable insights into the role of co-operative societies in local economic development and encouraged active participation from the students. A Career Orientation Session took place for the BCA Final Year students at the Research and Innovation Center at 10:00 AM on 22/01/2026. The program was organized by the Department of Computer Applications in collaboration with the Placement Cell to help students prepare for their future careers. The session offered a great opportunity for students to gain practical insights into industry expectations and career development.
The program began with a welcome speech by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Computer Applications. She warmly greeted the resource person and the students and highlighted how important career guidance programs are for shaping students' professional futures.
Mr. Neju A. N, Senior Manager, Quest Innovative Solution Pvt Ltd Cochin, served as the resource person for the session. He delivered an engaging presentation, using his professional experience to advise students on various crucial aspects of career success. He provided a clear view of current industry trends and stressed the need to develop both technical and soft skills to stay competitive in the job market.
A major part of the session focused on placement strategies. The speaker discussed effective ways to improve employability. He pointed out the significance of building resumes, developing skills, and personal branding to secure job opportunities. Additionally, he went over interview strategies, offering practical advice on how to confidently approach interviews. He talked about preparation techniques, communication skills, body language, and how to handle both HR and technical interview questions.

An informative session on AI for HR Interview and LinkedIn was conducted for the BCA Final Year students in the BCA Lab from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM on 19/01/2026. The program was organized by the Department of Computer Applications with the objective of helping students understand the role of Artificial Intelligence in modern recruitment processes and professional networking.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Computer Applications. She warmly welcomed the resource person and the students and highlighted the growing importance of Artificial Intelligence in recruitment and career development. She also emphasized the need for students to maintain a strong professional presence on platforms like LinkedIn.
The session was handled by Mr. Dileep M. B, Co-Founder of One Team, who served as the resource person. He delivered an engaging presentation explaining how Artificial Intelligence is increasingly used in HR interviews and recruitment processes. He shared insights on how companies use AI tools to screen resumes, analyze candidate profiles, and shortlist suitable candidates.
A major focus of the session was LinkedIn profile optimization. The resource person explained how students can build an effective and professional LinkedIn profile that attracts recruiters. He also discussed how AI-based tools help in personalized job matching, enabling candidates to find job opportunities that match their skills and interests.

The Department of Computer Application, in collaboration with Asia Pacific University and GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized a career guidance program titled “AI: An Action” with the objective of providing students with valuable insights into Artificial Intelligence and the wide range of career opportunities available in this rapidly growing field.
The program was conducted at MPN Hall from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students from the BCA and Computer Science (CS) programs participated in the session. A total of 26 BCA students from the Department of Computer Application actively attended the program, along with students from the Department of Computer Science.
The session commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. Sandhya Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Computer Application. In her address, she emphasized the importance of Artificial Intelligence in today’s technological landscape and highlighted the objectives of the program. She also introduced the resource persons and briefly spoke about their expertise, setting the tone for an informative and engaging session.
The resource persons for the program were Ms. Imaan Rojoa and Mr. Hussain Halderwala, renowned experts in the field of Artificial Intelligence and emerging technologies. They delivered insightful sessions focusing on the practical applications of AI, its impact across various industries, and the future scope of AI-related careers. The speakers stressed the importance of skill development, continuous learning, and adaptability to succeed in the fast-evolving technology sector.
As part of the session, the resource persons demonstrated various AI-powered tools, including content generation tools, image generation platforms, chat-based AI assistants, and automation tools. The Department of Computer Applications, in association with Sysbreeze Technologies Pvt Ltd, conducted a Hands-on Session on the topic “Python Programming” on 20th January 2026 from 9:30 AM to 12:30 AM. The session was held at the BCA Lab and was attended by students and faculty members of the department.
The programme was organized with the objective of enhancing students’ programming skills by providing foundational and practical knowledge of Python. The workshop aimed to bridge the gap between academic curriculum and industry requirements by exposing students to real-world applications of Python programming.
The workshop commenced with registration followed by an inaugural session. The resource person was introduced and the significance of Python as a versatile and widely used programming language was emphasized.
Ms. Keerthana delivered an insightful session covering both conceptual and practical aspects of Python programming. The programme focused on introducing Python basics, syntax, and core programming constructs such as variables, data types, operators, control statements, functions, modules, and basic data structures.
Hands-on sessions were conducted to enable students to practice coding and develop problem-solving skills. The resource person also provided an overview of Python libraries and highlighted career opportunities in Python development, thereby motivating students towards skill-oriented learning.

The Department of Sociology organized a programme titled “Her Story, Our Voice” on 24th March 2026 (Tuesday) from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Room No. 703. The programme was conducted as a talk session based on the film “Feminichi Fathima”, aiming to create awareness and discussion on gender perspectives and feminist narratives.
The session commenced with a warm welcome speech delivered by Ms. Nimmi Ayyappan Parambil, faculty member of the Department of Sociology. In her address, she highlighted the relevance of discussing gender issues through films and emphasized the importance of critical thinking among students.
The resource person for the session was Ms. Asfina Fabi K.T, an MSW student. She delivered an insightful talk on the film “Feminichi Fathima”, explaining its themes, characters, and the social messages conveyed through the storyline. The speaker elaborated on issues related to gender inequality, societal norms, and the lived experiences of women portrayed in the film. The session encouraged students to reflect on contemporary gender issues and engage in meaningful discussions.

The PG Department of Microbiology, GEMS Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Ramapuram, organized an online Competitive Exam Guidance Program titled “Target 2K26” on 28 February 2026 at 11:00 AM. The program was conducted in association with the IQAC and the PG Department of Microbiology, EMEA College of Arts and Science, Kondotty, as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions. The program was organized to guide postgraduate students in preparing for competitive examinations, with special focus on the CSIR-NET examination.
The session was handled by Dr. Rasiya K. T., Assistant Professor, PG Department of Microbiology, EMEA College of Arts and Science, Kondotty. During the session, the resource person provided detailed guidance on the CSIR-NET Life Sciences examination, focusing on the syllabus, exam structure, and preparation strategies required for success. Dr. Rasiya explained the importance of thoroughly studying the postgraduate syllabus, emphasizing that a strong conceptual understanding of core subjects is essential for clearing the CSIR examination. She discussed the detailed syllabus of CSIR-NET Life Sciences and highlighted how topics studied during postgraduate courses form the foundation for the exam.
The resource person also explained the exam pattern, mark distribution, and structure of the question paper, including the different sections and types of questions asked in the examination. She provided sample questions and examples to help students understand the analytical and conceptual approach required to solve CSIR-NET questions. Through these examples, students gained a clear idea about the question pattern and level of difficulty.
Overall, the program was highly informative and beneficial for the postgraduate students. It motivated them to start early preparation for the CSIR-NET examination and provided them with a clear understanding of the exam pattern and study approach required to achieve success.

An expert lecture on “Clinical Skills in Social Work: Case History Taking and Mental Status Examination” was organized on 19th March 2026 at 08:30 PM for MSW students. The session aimed to enhance students’ practical understanding and clinical competencies in psychiatric social work. The programme commenced with a welcome speech delivered by Asfina Fabi K T, a first-year MSW student, at 08:30 PM. She warmly welcomed the resource person and participants, setting a positive tone for the session.
The expert lecture began at 08:35 PM and was handled by Mr. Muhammed Rashid E, M.Phil. Trainee in Psychiatric Social Work at the Central Institute of Psychiatry, Ranchi. The session focused on the essential clinical skills required in social work practice, particularly case history taking and mental status examination (MSE).
The resource person provided a detailed explanation of the structure and components of case history, emphasizing the importance of systematic data collection, client engagement, and ethical considerations. He also elaborated on the various domains of mental status examination, including appearance, behavior, speech, mood, thought, perception, cognition, and insight. Practical examples and case illustrations were used to make the session interactive and easy to understand. Students actively engaged in the session by asking questions and clarifying their doubts. A total of 30 students participated in the programme, benefiting from the expert insights and practical knowledge shared during the session.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Nishiya C, a second-year MSW student, at 10:00 PM. She expressed gratitude to the resource person for the informative session and appreciated the active participation of students.

SYLLABUS

1. Cell Biology: Cell theory and types of cells (Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic), Structure and functions of cell organelles, Plasma membrane and transport mechanisms, Cell cycle, mitosis and meiosis.
2. Molecular Biology: DNA structure and replication, RNA transcription and translation Genetic code, Gene regulation (operon concept), Mutation and DNA repair
3. Biotechnology: Principles and scope of biotechnology, Recombinant DNA technology basics, PCR and DNA fingerprinting (basic concept), Applications in agriculture, medicine and industry, Bioinformatics basics.
4. Environmental Biotechnology: Ecosystems and biodiversity, Bioremediation, Wastewater treatment, Biofertilizers and biopesticides.
5. Basic Chemistry for Biotechnology: Chemical bonding, pH and buffers, Biomolecular interactions, Basic organic chemistry relevant to biomolecules.

 GEMS 2025 was successfully organized by GEMS Arts and Science College in collaboration with the Society of Biological Chemists (India) from 17 December 2025 to 19 January 2026. Conducted in hybrid mode at the Prem Nazir Audio Visual Theatre, the series enabled both offline and online participation, bringing together twelve distinguished speakers from India, Malaysia, USA, Nigeria, and Egypt.

The lectures covered advanced topics in microbiology, biotechnology, immunology, pharmacology, and biomedical sciences. The series began with Prof. Jagadeesh Bayry’s session on regulatory T cells and their therapeutic applications. Other notable talks included Prof. Manash Pratim Sarma on smoked food and cancer, Dr. Audrey Siew Foong Kow on allergy pathways, and Prof. Iyabo Olunike Omomowo on microbial roles in climate change and food security. Sessions by Dr. Tapan Dey and Dr. Seetharaman Jayaraman highlighted pulmonary hypertension and drug discovery.

Interdisciplinary themes such as oral cancer, wound healing, marine pharmacognosy, and PCOS were also explored. Interactive discussions followed each session, promoting critical thinking and engagement. Overall, the series enhanced scientific awareness, encouraged research interest, and strengthened global academic collaboration.
